Default G-Force 040 Combo + Hard drive prob

Hi

I bought a G-Force 040 Combo for my 2000 but when I installed it the system would just freeze. I think the problem was with my A2091 controller because I hear you need 7.0 roms and I only have 6.6. So I took the harddrive off the a2091 and have connected it right to the scsi controller built into the G-force and tried that but I only get a black screen. Does anybody have any Ideas?

Thanks

What happens when you use the GVP Install disk?

If I remember correctly, some models of the A2000 (the German Rev 4.3 comes to mind) need to have the 68000 CPU on the mobo removed for the 680x0 to work properly. Check the front left corner inside the case to see which revision you have.

Be very careful removing the 68000, as the pins bend easily, and most IC extractors don't handle 64-pin DIPs (I use a right-angled automotive "pick").

If this isn't the problem, then have a look at the jumpers. GVP is notorious for having jumpers that don't do anything but render the card inoperable - one may have been misidentified as a legit jumper, and set to the wrong position.

My mobo is ver 6.0 so I dont think that is the problem. I also I have a 68020 midget racer installed instead of the 68000. It might be the jumpers I will try to check them all. I have not tried the GVP install disk because the computer just gives me a black screen. I will try the disk also. I really hope I can figure this out I want my amiga!

You need to remove the midget racer. The G-Force expects an 68000 motherboard.

If I remove the midget racer piggyback there will be no processor left because I dont have the 68000 anymore. Will it work with no processor?

Thanks

No - but you cannot have two accelerators in one Amiga A2000 (I am afraid this isn't a dual processor machine) You will have to get a 68000 cpu to make this setup work.

The good news is that 68000 chips are really cheap these days............
