Default SysInfo is wrong!

I tried an 060 in my A1200 today, plugged in the top of my Mediator (don't know if that makes a difference). I renamed 68040.library to 68040old.library, and copied all of the libraries from the included floppy disk to my LIBS: drawer. I then powered off, installed the card, and powered back on. The system booted up fine, but not significantly faster. I typed CPU in to a shell and it reported System: 68060 68882 (INST: Cache Burst) (DATA: NoCache NoBurst).

I then ran SysInfo expecting it to show me an 060, but to my surprise it said that my CPU, FPU and MMU were all 68040. I did a speed test, and it reported 15706, which appeared to be slower than an A4000 @ 25MHz!

Can the information from SysInfo be trusted, or is there something wrong?

Cheers

You must be new. This is a know issue as SysInfo does not support the 060+ CPUs. It was written when the highest CPU was a 040. Use a different program.

Oh ok thanks. I'm not new - look at my post count :-) I've just never used anything as fast as an 060 before!

Yep, TJ is right. SysInfo was written before 060 cpus were used with Amigas (or perhaps before they even existed, too).

Sysinfo does not show 060s, I think it was made before they were commonplace. Also, your system should be significantly faster, maybe copying the files by hand is not enough, maybe a proper installation changes system files.

Is there another utility I can use to see info like this? I have searched Aminet but everything seems to be benchmarking utilities rather than system info.

Cheers

Ok I just did a low level CPU test in SysSpeed and it reports 65.29 MIPS. Does that seem about right?

MIPS is Meaningless Information about Processor Speed.

You cannot compare MIPS results returned by different programs, nor can you use the MIPS values even to compare different cpu models of the processor family.

Anyway, if you followed these instructions in installing the libraries, you should be fine:
Code:
*******************************************************************
* To get a layout which works for every processor use this: *
*                                                                 *
*    37.30 CBM 68040.library -> libs:68040old.library             *
*    Phase5 68040.library -> libs:68040new.library                *
*    Phase5 68060.library -> libs:68060.library                   *
*    Phase5 68040dummy.library -> libs:68040.library              *
*                                                                 *

Amije, were your results from SysSpeed also? If so then they are identical to mine. Piru - that is how my libraries are configured.

What would happpen if the libraries were set up wrong? Would the MIPS and MFLOPS still show the same value but the card would actually be slower, or would the MIPS and MFLOPS show a lower figure without the correct libs?
