Hi,
It's solderless as the ROM chip(s) are socketed... You'll need to open your Amiga's case, and depending on the model, possibly remove shielding and/or other internal case components to allow access to the ROM chips. Then, the "official" way would be to take the proper anti-static precautions and use a chip extraction tool. The "bodge-it" (TM) way would be to ignore anti-static precautions and use a couple of large-ish flat/slot screwdrivers to gently ease the ROM(s) out of their socket(s). In any case, the orientation of the ROM(s) should be noted prior to removal as insertion the wrong way round is likely to cause damage. - Ali P.S. Yay! 500th post! :-) |

take a note before remove the chips that one pinout of both sockets are empty and must be remain this way. take care to don't put the rom pin start from it.

Do this with caution if you lift them out at an angle you will dammage the pins. You want to put the new ones in just as cautiously by making surer that you have them in the right direction (the stamp on the face is not always a good thing to follow) I have seen them stamped differently. There should be a notch or a dent in one cornner that is pin #1 look at the old ones before removing and you should see the same thing.
Make sure that you apply even pressure on them when pushing them into the sockets (you can rock them slightly but not too much) and put them in flat not one side first and then the other checking to make sure that you have all pins lined up and straight.

Ah I remember when I had to put my first pair of 3.1 roms in my first 4000. That was magical. Since my one motherboard already has them, i have to look for one more 3.1 4000 rom and if I wanted to be strange about it the ones for my 2000.

You will have to look closly, there will be some sort of dot or notch on one of the corrners. It may be hidden under the lable so you may need to peal back each corrner of the lable to find it. You can also look on the side of the narrow end there may ne a mark there.
I dont like the rom chips that have papper lables on them it does not alow them to dissapate the heat very well.

above all, read the instractions!!!The 3.1 roms are LARGER than 3.0,you will notice that the socket is smaler.first plug in the first row just a little bit, then bend them just as much as the other row to able to fit in.And last but no least, the first little sockets from the left, must remain as they are,so you start to plug the roms after them.
