Amiga 1000 (Possible Daphne Version)

I picked up an Amiga 1000 with Monitor & Keybd and a Local Electronics store. I opened it up to clean out he Dust & Gunk & It seems to hava a Daphne Chip in it. I was wondering how to verify this.

If it helps, my A1000 has the following:

8367RD 1486S - Agnus
8364R4 06-86 - Paula
8362R6 5185S - Denise

What does yours have?

If anyone's interested, mine also has a DKB "Insider 1 Meg" board that plugs into the 68000's socket (with the 68000 itself relocated to this board).

I also have another board inside, mounted upside-down, with a single serial number on it of Y8AA2099391 - but I don't know what it is and don't really want to remove it in case I damage it. I assume it's a further RAM expansion?

My A1000 itself is made in Japan, with a serial number of XM5001480N. It has "Commodore Amiga 1000 Personal Computer" on the sticker underneath the case, so mine's a comparitively "recent" one. Is yours one of the original ones that just says "Amiga"?

Mine has:

8361r3 3285 s
8362r5 4685 s
8364r4 4185 s

The upside down board carries alot of glue logic. ie lsxxx chips and some ram mostlikely to hold the kickstart on the floppy disk.

I havent booted it cause i am missing the keybd cable and a db9 to db15 cable

Mine says on the bottom:

Amiga
Serial no. XM11158491
Made in Japan

The daughter board is what would become the Gary chip in later Amigas.

According to On The Edge, Daphne was the version of the video chip before the HAM modes were implemented (though I've never heard this confirmed anywhere else). So I guess find some HAM software and see if it fails.

I think you've got an extra "1" there. My Amiga 1000 is serial no. XM 1157304.

Did you know you can use a phone handset cord for the keyboard cable?

If this is true, and assuming my A1000 is older than AppleIIGuy's (based on serial no.), then it seems that AppleIIGuy does not have the Daphne chip. I ran Photon Paint (HAM program) with no problem.

Yep I did add an extra 1 the S/N is XM1158491
Phone cable is too big to fit.

Not the phone cable. The phone "handset" cable (from handset to base unit).

You actually have the 8362 R5? I don't feel like opening my A1000 at the moment to check, but I know I have the Rev. A motherboard - which means you probably have the Rev. A motherboard too. Amiga-Hardware says Daphne was only on the early Amiga 1000s, which means the Rev. 6. (gee, so much information... which info can you trust?)

If It is a Daphne chip It was worth the $30

Ah! Cool, thanks for the info!

As far as I know, my A1000 does have HAM modes, but I guess that's because it's a comparatively late one.

It looks like I've got one as well, I never even knew such a chip existed!  There's a pic of my A1000 chipset Cool,here.  You learn something new everyday...

Your Agnus is a couple of revs earlier than mine.

All Amigas have the HAM mode (4096 colours), it's the EHB mode (64 colours) that some early A1000s didn't have.

Boot up Dpaint to confirm this.

Cool man! The a1000 is a lot of fun! About the kb cord, ive explained this to somebody else. It's not the cord going from the phone to the wall, it's the cord going from the phone to the hand set ( which is the smaller connector ). If your kb dont work, ive got a spare you can have ( with cord ) you can have for the shipping cost.
