Anyone know of a use for scala dongles?
« on: December 29, 2005, 11:18:13 AM »
I have around 25 or 30 of the things in a box here. Long story, but not a very interesting one. Suffice it to say, wth can I do with 25-30 scala dongles?

Put them on Ebay, one at a time, not all of them at once !! I know there are enough people wanting to run Scala but can not find a dongle anywhere :)

Actually, I am interested in running Scala. I would buy one of these dongles. Is the software available anywhere?

What dongles are they? If for the PC, are they Designer, reporter, player etc?

What port do they plug into?
A1200 in DIY Tower. 3.2 ROMs (softkicking 3.2.2), OS 3.2.2 with ClassicWB, CF card, CD RW and IDE to SD adapter running off the internal IDE port (using the A4000 4-port IDE adapter from Amigakit), Pistorm 32 lite with Pi4/2GB/Emu68 or Blizzard 1230-IV, with 32MB 60ns RAM and 50MHz 68882 FPU. 3COM PCMCIA Network card running with Miami DX.
MorphOS on PowerMac G5 and ATI 9600 pro

@ AndyFC

They are joystick dongles (at least the one I saw when Scala MM400 first came out was a joystick port dongle).

@ CatHerder

You'll definitely be able to sell at least 10 of those on eBay, for a Buy-It-Now price of $5 (maybe more). I doubt that legitimate Scala owners will be the ones purchasing them, because the later versions of Scala MM400 did not have dongles (I have that version), so if somebody lost a dongle he would probably have got the dongle-less version copied onto his disks either by the guys at Scala or by a mate.
Also, given the choice between the dongled version and the one without the dongle, the latter wins in terms of convenience.

An Idea might be, try selling it to Software Hut in Bulk.  there are people out there who need the Dongles. Maybe they never got around to getting the Dongless version.

You need to find out if they are MM400 dongles or MM300 dongles...or even MM200 Dongles or InfoChannel Dongles.

I think they may have used different ones for different versions......I tried my MM300 dongle on MM400 and it didnt work.

Hey - that Hollywood program did look GREAT.  Post your own review once you get it.  Also the price seems quite reasonable and it is nice to support folks that still develop nice software for the Amiga platform.  Good for you and for the programmer

Scala MM300/ MM400 is also a great program but the dongles are a pain in the tuckas.  I have a set of dongles as well
mine is green I think and matches with my MM300 software.  I also have some Infochannel dongles that are yellow or pink?  I don't remember.

You can run what is called a Dutch Auction on E-Bay where you have multiple items for sale.  When you set-up the auction you specify the total number of pieces that you have.  If you are doing this altruistically (spelling?) you can post a low "buy it now" price.  If you want to squeeze top dollar then I believe you can just set up a starting price and see where it goes.

What color are they?
My InfoChanne400/IC500 ones are yellow, I also once had a red MM200 one.

I beleive they are all red 2.00 Scala Dongles for the Amiga. (They plug into joystick port 2 I think). I also counted them, I have 30.

Well, 5 of them have "200" written on them, the rest are just blank red ones. I was thinking of making a 'legoman' out of them. :-)

I guess the only way to be certain would be to try each one of them with an installed scala? That isn't going to happen anytime soon I assure you...

If anyone here wants one, let me know (send me your shipping address via pm). I'll find out what the cost is to ship one sometime today. (I think they're thin enough to go by regular letter air mail, meaning maybe $1.50-$2.00 to mail one but I'll have to check).

@CatHerder

judging from what was said here, it seems like Red is for Scala MM200
Green for MM300 (Like mine)
MM400 (dont know....maybe Blue?)

Yellow and Pink for InfoChannel 400 and 500
CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...
