Default Miami Not finding my modem

Miami (version 32B) does'nt seem to like my modem.

I have a supraexpress 56k external

Model # sup2730
I've tried othermodem using the init strings that i have in my kdeppp settings in linux and all the varieties of supraexpress that miamiinit has listed with no luck.

Any suggestions?

Check your hardware driver (serial.device, etc) actually works with your modem.
Get a terminal prog like NComm or Term and set it to use the same hardware device as Miami was, and see if you can talk to the modem.
E.G. entering AT&V should make the modem list it's config.
That is if Supra modems are Hayes compatible???

If there are still no comms with the modem, try a different modem and cable.
Failing that, you may have a motherboard fault. Maybe a CIA problem. Also check the -12V supply to the motherboard.

Ok, I've used JRCOM to talk to the modem nice.
serial.device seems adaquate to at least talk to the modem.

I can even call and login to my ISP with JRCOM, however I can't initalize a TCP/IP stack (Obviously)

Miami still refuses to find my modem. I've tried using altser.device serial.device and the built in miami driver.
With serial.device, it will work, but hardware flow control is'nt working. And it only finds the modem if I set the serial prefs to NO handshaking and 19200 bps.

With altser.device it will not work. It seems to find the modem, however, It can't send the modem signals with RTS/CS flow contorl enabled. So says Miami.

With the Miami serial device, it dose'nt find the modem at all.

Hmmph.. This is not cool since I had this Amiga all working great with a USR 56k modem a few months ago, which.. unfortunately, I sold.

What serial device do some of you use?? Why did I sell such a nice piece of hardware??

Hello GreggBz,

Can't you try Genesis? It's part of WB3.9.

Or if it's possible, search Aminet for serial devices and try each of them with Miami. I used something like 8n1.dvice or so before switching to ethernet.

Good luck!

spidey

ps: why did you sell your old modem?? :-)

I sold it to a friend because I had so many modems.
Three internal and 2 external. I should have sold the supra model because I now know that nobody builds them like USR!!

I might just buy another one.. Anything for the Amiga.
=)

If it connects with a terminal prog, than I can't see why Miami shouldn't work properly.
Perhaps try putting ATZ only in the init string to reset the modem, and let the modem use all it's internal defaults?

8n1.device is a good suggestion, I used to use it with my hayes compatible modem back in the days when I used dialup internet
I can send you a copy if you like, drop me an email.

are configurig it all manualy ? or have you let MiamiInit have a go at finding it ?

8n1.device was always a nasty piece of work in my experience causing crash after crash. wheni used dialup i found artser and even miami built in more then adiquate untill i upgraded to a TwisterII ... and now cable

Im pretty sure my first modem was a Diamond SupraExtres "e" 56k. Not the fullsize edition but a little black one. didnt have any issues with it.
