I have all of my 3.1 install disks. My PicassoIV has gone bad and I have no way atm to use composite video. I have a 23pin to VGA adapter but this doesn't fix the 15K-31K issue and I dont have another scan doubler. I have an A4000D with 3.1 roms installed.
What I need is: the exact commands required to load the dblntsc monitor driver, iprefs and then loadwb without being able to see what I am doing I can feel my way in the dark so to speak and get to the early access boot menu then boot the no startup sequence button. I think I need to boot from the workbench disk but if you think install disk then thats ok The concept is that I think I one of the monitors (dblntsc or maybe its vgaonly) will let me see something. If I am wrong let me know. I just need to get far enough to see something on a standard ViewSonic GS790 monitor. Also have a PS790 if anybody knows if it may be more compatible. I think they will both work fine. Let me know comments and questions. I am off to the gym but will be back in about an hour. Let me know your ideas, questions and requirements. System: A4000D Rev. D 030/25 Cyberstorm MkI 040/40 with 128MB RAM Picasso IV (broken SD/FF) IDE DVD/CD-R Combo drive Dataflyer 500 SCSI Adapter (2GB SCSI HDD not bootable) |

Remember I am working blind so any paths, commands, etc.. will have to be typed in manually by me blind. Short is better
I figure it will start off something like this: setpatch assign env: ram: ... I dont know if the correct monitor drivers are on the workbench disk, install disk or the storage disk. So please check if you have it available. |

hmm, forget early startup menu. try using CTRL+D to break startup sequence and get into shell. or make boot floppy on other Amiga (you do have one?). hopefully FD0: has priority. sorry, I cant help you about commands, don't know them.
if you have other Amigas you could easily make sernet or parnet boot floppy that would allow access to dirs. how come you don't have a520 modulator? its sooo easy to get secondhand a500 with a520 for few euros.

You'd still need to have envarc:sys/screenmode.prefs set to dblntsc for this to work. If you don't, no go, regardless of what commands you type. @orange Quote:

I see, sorry, I'm a bit newbie at using anything newer than 1.3..
isn't there any way to break startup-sequence on KS3.1 other than early startup menu? |

I think the best solution is to connect TV on composite out,
and then setup other. Regards

@nyteschayde:
If you can get something onto a disk the amiga can read this should work. 1. Put the BootControl exe from this this archive on a disc. 2. Boot the Amiga with no startup. 3. Insert the disk in df0: and type in "DF0:BootControl INSTALL BOOT MODE=VGA VGAONLY" This should install this program resident in memory and reboot your machine. The now resident BootControl will now promote all the system-friendly stuff asking for a PAL/NTSC screenmode to a DblNTSC screenmode (with VGAOnly to up the frequency a bit). With system-friendly stuff I ofcourse also apart from WB etc also mean the early boot menu etc. DblNTSC with VGAOnly gives you a 29.02kHz/59Hz screenmode which works with most VGA monitors except some new ones that seems to dislike the low horizontal frequency (31.5kHz is the normal minimum of PC VGA screenmodes). So if your current monitor doesnt display a picture, try with another one, preferrably as old as you can find as they generally are more tolerant to a bit lower frequencies. One important note: SetPatch in AOS3.9 with BB2 disables BootControl. /Patrik |

Thats great. Karlos was right about you Hey, can you do me one last favor. Does crossdos of any sort come with 3.1 (can't remember) and if so can we walk through the list of blind commands needed to mount PC0:. If I can mount PC0: then I can copy files from a PC blindly.This may be tricky but looks like it might just work with a little more help. Gabriel |

Check your email. I hope I remembered exactly which of the 3.1 install disks stores what ;-)

Thanks to Karlos and Patrik I was able to get my amiga displaying on a standard monitor blindly. Special thanks goes to Patrik for finding the utility to do and to Karlos for helping me fumble blindly in activating CrossDOS and my PC0 driver to transfer the utility from the PC to the Amiga.
I am now contemplating returning the 80$ composite to VGA adapter I purchased. I will see how it works with the playstation first.
