No Buddha HDToolbox drive
« on: September 30, 2005, 01:59:43 AM »
No drives show up in hdtoolbox.

I have a A3000D

Early startup menu shows all boards working.

Buddha speed reports "no boards"

WHY???

A probable cause could be the default device. The A3000 has a scsi port built onto the motherboard therefore initializing the scsi.device before the Buddha in the zorro slot

The buddha can use either scsi.device as standard in AmigaOS or the Atapi.device

You should change the device setting within HDtoolBox to atapi and see if the buddha then is recognised and able to see any attached drives
Completely useless? I can always be used as a bad example  :lol:

having no idea widh HDToolbox version/OS you are using, try to add
this tooltype in HDToolbox icon

ASKDEVICE

and disable the other i.e:

(SCSI_DEVICE_NAME=scsi.device)

I am using OS3.9 BB2

I am also using HDToolbox with "askdevice" active.

Do I need to have a floppy hooked up to the board in order to add a HDD to the board?

I select the buddha_atapi.device and select ok, but no drives show up in the window!

ShowConfig reports the board is in the system

Do I need to flash the Buddha in order to get it to work???

Or is it someting simple that I am missing?

It should be scsi.device or 2nd.scsi.device or 3rd.scsi.device or buddha_scsi.device or buddha_ide.device or whatever but not buddha_atapi.device. ATAPI is for CD-ROM drives and the like only.

@amiwalker:

Not to be negative, but I will still be negative in this case: Using a Zorro2 ide-controller in an A3000 is blashpemy - it has a nice builtin dma scsi controller. If you want to use ide - get an acard ide<->scsi bridge from vesalia instead and use the builtin A3000 scsi controller. It will give you a fast harddrive with minimal cpuload and it not set you back more than ~5EUR more than the Buddha.

@patrik:

Just to add a quick note, or better yet a warning to people looking into these kind of solutions, in regards to your acard suggestion. When A3000D is concerened, always keep in mind that using any type of hard drive converter adds to the overall length of your required mounting space, so in the case of A3000D + hard drive + Acard or even 80-pin to 68/50 pin SCSI converters, you will need to mount the hard drive in one of the floppy drive bays as there is not enough clearance space in A3000D casing for anything longer than a standard hard drive, in the regular hard drive mounting tray. Acard simply hits the back of the case and needs a few cms more in order to fully fit.

What they are trying to tell you is that you must set the tool type for the hdtoolbox icon as the device you actually have.
IOW - highlight the HDToolBox icon with one click, then go to the top menu and hit icons, then go down to Information - this will open the window for the HDToolBox icon. Once there, make sure you have the correct tool type, in the tool type window.
I realize this really gets down to basics, but I want to make sure you don't misunderstand.
I hope this helps, and cures your problem. (it should).
Good luck
