Default One $EXPENSIVE$ A500 !!!

Hi Folks,

Usually, I am not phazed by anything with the C= name on it that sells for way more money than it's worth these days, but, this one takes the cake:

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/Commodore-AMIGA-500-PLUS-games-joysticks-ext-drive_W0QQitemZ8217046928QQcategoryZ98930QQssPageN ameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem">A500</a>

$291.90 !!! (at the time of this post anyways) for an A500 !!!! I am looking at the auction and this system doesn't even have a hard drive or some other cool piece of hardware to justify the price!!

As far as the games go, 99.9% of those are available on various "Abandonware" sites, so providing a huge lot of "backups" <cough>pirated copies</cough> does not constitute a good reason for such a massive investment.

So, I ask you all, why would anyone allow themselves to pay this much for a setup like this? Am I missing something?

Thanks,
Mike

...Wow!

That much??!! I wonder if the people buying these Amiga's are ones that don't know what one is? :-D

For the most part. I wouldn't feel sorry for the person that ends up spending that much. Maybe they want to buy something new? :-D

I tried to think to myself "self, you love Amiga's, would you spend that much on one? Sure I would, but not a hard disk-less , unaccellerated A500 with a bunch of pirated game copies."

I don't get it. I bought 2 complete Amiga 2000's on ebay, just recently. Each had a 2mb card in them, both had Bridgeboards with hard-cards, I got a functionaly 1084 monitor, 3 keyboards. Basically, I bought a mouse, begged a fine memeber of this site for a 1.3 ROM chip. I added a used 2091 with 7.0 ROMs from SoftHut and a used 4.5GB SCSI HD and I had a pretty nice Kickstart 1.3 based retro-gaming system with an HD and Workbench 1.3 to play with all of my old tools, utilities, games, fred fish disks, etc. Total cost = $139.00 shipping included.

Not too shabby, if I must say so myself. :-D

Thanks,
Mike

For a moment I thought that he had forgotten to indicate that the TV is not included, however upon closer inspection it clearly states that it is not, so definitely there's no chance of confused bidders here.

It's simply a mistery to me why the bidding has gone wild on this one.

I sold an A500 for 255 pounds about a month ago on ebay. I was seriously struggling to pay the rent, and that helped me out enormously

This is quite bad, but I'm sure I saw a xopy of Xenon II go for about £200 ($360ish). Imagine playing a game that potentially costed four times more than the computer.

@Cyberus:

I remember that auction. What a good final bid, eh? :-) I actually stopped watching it when the price was around 60 quid as I thought that it was way overpriced at that point. I never realised that the final bid was 255GBP! :-o
