Default hard drives

how do i add a 2nd hard drive to an a1200?

i have a 2.5, and a buffered interface, and cables, but, if i add it on the second channel, it doesnt seem to like it, or make it appear on workbench,

so this leads me to one conclusion: i have to mount it (like the cd drive also on this channel)
but how do i find out what the parameters are?

or am i completely wrong.

this hard drive has already got workbench on it, is partitioned, and has some games on it, i want to get them off this hd and onto the other one, without backing everything onto floppys :-?

Did you get any software with your interface? (IDEFix or Elbox's ATA Driver)
Without it the Amiga doesn't know about the second channel.

Leofoe: If its a 2.5 drive its fed throught the ribbon cable.

As for the problem with this drive I can think of two possibilities:
1. 2.5 drives don't usually have Master/Slave jumpers so may not work with anything else on a channel.
2. I had to juggle a LS-120/ZIP/HD/CD on my 4 way interface until the A1200 could see them all at the same time.

Good luck ;-)

idefix97

the cdrom is unit 3, its on the second channel, the first hard drive has jumpers on it its a 2.5inch
the second hard drive has jumpers on it

i was just hoping of an easy way to sort this out, but it just looks like buying a 2.5-3.5 hard drive connector and just puttin them in on the middle row of pins, and having a master / slave setup going

btw i have a prototype ide buffer apparently

what about 'cable select' for slave/master? It might work if he changes places of HDDs on cable, eh?
