Default CF as an alternative to a hard disk in my a1200

Does anyone know if the a1200 will recognise flash memory on the ide bus? Will it just see it as a hard drive and boot from it? See item number 5795764741 on ebay..

Yes with a CF to IDE converter i got mine from Ebay for £3 and it worked great boot times of under 3 seconds and it didnt need a more powerful PSU, i used HDtools to prep the cards except 1 nasty cheap CF card which i had to use RD prep to format etc.

Yup, an IDE-CF adapter will work. I have one of those with a 512mb CF card that I use for testing. Works fine. Just don't mount VMEM or scratch files on it, because those cards don't have unlimited write cycles.

Remember a CF card has a limited amount of write cycles before failing. Simple put they aren't meant to be used as a HD replacement.
They will last a lot less then a hard drive.
There are ATA Flash drives out there (be it a lot more expensive) which are made to replace hard drives. They should last a lot longer.

or you could use a CF microdrive, which is in fact a mini-hard drive so should provide some better performance and last a bit longer

Hi,
will there be enough space inside desktop A1200 to have FastATA 1200 MK-III controller + 2.5" hard disk + IDE2CF adapter with card installed alltogether?

I believe the slave will slow down the master, if its a slower device; something to be borne in mind....
