Default Networking - almost there

I have managed to get a 3com network card which is compatible with the 3c589.device and I get a link light on the router (linksys) and the network adapter.

The TCP stack I have used is MiamiDX and the browser is Aweb (the OS 3.9 version).

I can browse to the router (it prompts for password and then lets me into the configuration screen) so the network is working to that extent, but I cannot then browse to the Internet - any site I try gives 'Unable to resolve...' whether I use an IP address or the proper URL.

When Setting up Miami, it does not maintain my settings following a reboot (whether I use the wizard or set it manually) and the DNS servers that I set are not recognised (they are internet servers at 194.168.4.100 and 194.168.8.100 and as I cannot get to the Internet I guess that is the problem there).

I am so near with getting my A1200 onto the 'net but cannot get around these last couple of issues. Any advice is welcome.

You should set the gateway address in MiamiDLX interface to the ip adress of the router and set the option to get DNS address automatically, if it does not work, then set the DNS to the adress of the router too, at least, this is how it works on my setup and do not forget to save the settings.

Hope that helps,

D.

Yep, if you can't get out of your home segment, the standard gateway is missing.

I am actually writing this from my A1200 now! (not my PC as earlier).

I put the DNS IP addresses into my router and ran MiamiDX again . In Miami I also changed to Internet from LAN.

I cant believe that I forgot to see what options were available in Miami when using the right mouse buton - shows I#ve been away fom the Amiga for too long.

Thanks for your help. Samba next... (I#ve seen the tutorials and it looks OK to do if you follow them)

Strangely, the BBC web site stills doesn#t show unless I use the IP address, but others are OK.
