(Sorry, posted in wrong area)
ops:Hi, Last night I booted up (my A3000) with a bit of a fuss. At first, kickstart tried to load, but then the graphics got really messed up..no loading continued. I had read about dead battery problems on the forums and got my Kickstart disk to boot with. Everything worked like a dream. That old workbench seemed to keep itself warm for me after years of neglect... I worked on it for several hours without any troubles. Today was a different story... After repeated tries to boot it up, even with the kick start disk, the graphics got really messed up, eventually giving me the grey screen. I have pulled it apart and proceeded to disconnect the battery, hoping tomorrow I'll find a replacement to install.:-? Wish me luck! and any feedback would be helpfull. Thanks......Wizardo

A dead battery shouldn't pose a problem for an Amiga, but a leaking battery will! Get that thing off the motherboard and clean up any acid/corrosion (blue stuff) with isopropyl alcohol.

A common cause of those sorts of problems can be bad contacts in the many IC sockets.
Remove then reinsert all of the leaded devices (to "wipe clean" socket contacts) which can solve many different problems. As for replacing the battery, some notes on it here: http://amiga.serveftp.net/battery.html |

Hi again,
I cleaned all the chips and sockets, removed the battery and soldered new leads for some wire connectors to the exterior of the case for a new battery (thinking to prevent future battery issues...) All went quite well but now...well I must have fried something... At boot up, it reads the drive, makes all the sounds of a regular boot up sequence, then nothing....no images anymore, just garble and then grey screen. I tried to (A) (A) (DEL) and my power LED gave me the fatal green flash... :-? J.

Fortunately the video chip 8373 Super Denise is a dip chip. Try removing it and replacing it with another, even an older 8362 Denise will do. I had the same problem with scrambled video on an A3000 I rescued from certain battery death not long ago. You could also carefully try removing Amber, cleaning the plcc contacts and reseating her.
