Hi. THere was a thread started recently about someone that had his CyberstormPPC fixed in Italy by some company. I was looking for that thread cause I was curious to see who the company (the poster didn't post it's name in the beginning) was but couldnn't find it...

Great
... maybe I should take note of this thread too, in case I can't find it later... One thing that caught my attention is that the poster in said thread said that they desoldered the PPC chip, or I'm just imagining things...? If so, we have someone that cansolder in a faster 604 CPU if someone doesn't mind making the experience :-D

The ATE Company, is a PCB/BGA reworker (specialized in BGA soldering/reballing).
Don't ask them anything Amiga related, because they doesn't even know what an Amiga is. If you think that your 604e and/or 603 CPUs has some problems related to bad soldering, brocken traces or so, the ATE is ok. They can perform ONLY reworking/BGA reballing and so. Better than a kick on the teeths :-) oops . . contact them before A.T.E. Srl (COSTRUTTORE) Assemblaggio SMD-TDH (BGA-PRESS-FIT), Riparazione retrofitting schede, apparecchiature elettroniche. Ingegnerizzazione schede elettroniche. Prototipi, produzione piccole/medie serie in completa fornitura. @Jose
in few words . . . 1- they can rework your CPU (desoldering/reballing/fix the eventually brocken traces)- 70 Eur plus bla, bla 2- replace the CPU (if you are able to find one) for about the same price 3- take the CPU from a MAC CPU card (you must find one) and install it on the CSPPC for 140 EUR or so. "Mission impossible" its a joke, if you ask me. EDIT- i meant to say option 2 and 3 |

@Framiga
Hmm, why 2 and 3 are impossible ? There a Mac CPU card with a 604 at 300Mhz on eBay right now for 14.95$ Shouldn't be hard to find a 604e at 400mhz. Or you mean the upgrade is impossible ?

ah Ok well :-)
But you wish upgrade a working CSPPC or attempt the upgrade on a broken one? (or at least with a not working 604) Because IMHO, are 2 completely different aproach. As you can see, the guy had a "not-working" 604e (not a fried one- like most of the broken CSPPC). The Company (A.T.E. Srl) has desoldered/reworked the 604e and, most impostant had fixed some broken traces under the PPC. Unfortunately (as usual) i've sold my defective CSPPC few days before to know about the good work done by A.T.E. Srl :-( So if you want, try . . . and let us know :-) |

Have just emailed ATE that I want to send my DCE CS PPC to them, JJ at Amigacenter couldn't fix my card since he believes the PPC soldering under the 604e is bad...at the monent the card only works as a plain CS MKIII :-)
I'll let you guys know how it went, now I'm just hoping for an answer from them...hope they speak english otherwhise I guess I'm fried |

Seems like there is hope for my one of my CSPPC boards. At first the PPC CPU worked after a reflash, but most times it didn't, and the flash was apparently lost after a power down. Could be nice to get the PPC CPU running again...
