I got my new IDE 2.5 to 3.5 cable. This way I can have my internal 2.5 drive on my 1200, and an external (and externally powered) CD-ROM. Everyhing boots up PERFECTLY.
I installed AmiCDFS from aminet and followed instructions to the T. Nothing happens, it does not read ANY CD's yet the drive works perfect on my PC. And yes it is set to slave. What gives?

P.S. It sees the hard drives I hook up to the 3.5 connection just fine.

No, it doesn't suck.
You are trying to use an ATAPI CD-ROM which won't work with it right out of the box. Download IDEFix and install (or if you have OS3.5+ you don't need anything else).

AmiCDFS works perfectly for what it's suppose to do. It's not a hardware device driver, just a CD filesystem. Now you're trying to use this CDFS with a device driver (scsi.device) that doesn't support ATAPI devices (such as CDROm)... hence your CD doesn't work.
You need a device that supports ATAPI such as the scsi.device in OS3.5/3.9 (though these OS's also comes with CDFS so no need for 3'rd part for that), IDEfix witch has it's own .device or a real SCSI/IDE controller with it's own .device. |

Of course when it goes to scan my hardware, it doesn't see a thing, not even when the Hard Drive is plugged in. I dunno about this crap, it's an expensive program with an overly confusing installation, think I'll just wait till my accelerator gets here and install OS 3.9.
Thankx for the help though!

It's not crap. Read the replies and you will come to the conclusion you forgot to install a devicedriver which understands cd-romdrives.
Don't blame stuff that doesn't work on something else than your own lack of knowledge... :-)

Ya, I understand that. That's why I titled this:
Does it suck or what?, keyword what?. ![]() I'm at the point of installing this expensive piece of software called idefix, and am rather confused because it fails to see devices that HDTools manages to see without it. I figure I might as well hold out, because for one, I've no intension of paying for a CD-ROM driver, and secondly, I've got OS 3.9, I merely need to wait for my hardware to arrive so I can use it. Problem solved.

Come to think of it, I'll need this fixed in order to install OS 3.9, unless you can install via Catweasel, which I'm sure will work.

Are you trying to install the CD rom and the HD on one cable or do you use a 4 way buffered IDE adapter?
For 4 way buffered ide adapter here is a good link Buffered IDE Interface Also, check the jumper settings (Master/Slave). Hope that helps. Lopos :-) |
