Default My Bank.... AAAAaaargh!

I've been using Ibrowse to log onto my bank account web site for the past four years without any trouble. Four years and a month ago I last logged onto my bank site with Internet Explorer and about a week later somebody drained my account with some strange purchases made in Thailand, to which I've never been. So for the last four years I've been using IBrowse exclusively without any security incidents.

Well, today I logged in and was greeted with a page that informed me that I'm now non-compliant, and that I MUST use Internet Explorer for, get this, Security Reasons!

Well, fine. If somebody again steals my money the bank will have to pay for it, but it just makes me stop and think how much money Internet Explorer is going to cost these banks which blindly follow what they perceive to be the Internet standards.

Oh well, frustrated vent session over.

Try Opera, it can pretend it's IE.
Alternately, if you're lucky Firefox might be supported.

Can iBrowse not spoof it?

(Not that iBrowse was ever able to log on to my bank's internet shambles).

Never, will I ever use IE for banking, the day my bank forces me to use IE, I'll either abandon net banking, or I'll find another bank.

Are you sure it's not a more modern feature like SSL 3.0 that's needed?

An idea is that if you are forced to use IE for banking - only use it for banking. Use firefox or whatever for everything else and you reduce the risk of spyware getting installed.

Using a seperate browser for financial stuff is probably a good move even if you aren't forced to use IE.

Its not so much spyware I'd be concerned with, its the fact that IE is like a piece of Swiss cheese, you just never know when a new exploit is going to appear.

On that note, from my experience, anyone who has a spyware infestation probably deserves it anyway, as a rule of thumb steer clear of porn, free/illegal stuff etc. and you should be fine.

Well the fellow who got ripped off probably did have some sort of keystroke logger installed to grab his banking username/password - a good example of malicious spyware (rather than the mundane stuff that merely records sites you have visited, etc).

Running software such as adaware is also a good move even if you are confident you have taken adequate precautions - you'd be suprised what makes it on.

I know IE is a poor product, but if that is what the bank says to use and is supported - I'm not going to argue with them. The best you can do is minimize your exposure by not using it much/at all and to keep it patched.

Hum,
i wouldn`t bother with any online banking browser...

But, if you definatly cant get on with an amiga browser then the new Netscape Navigator (Version 8) just got released.

The 8.0 Beta debuted back in March, with this final version being based on Firefox 1.03, and includes Trust Rating, a feature which identifies sites as safe or unsafe.
Netscape 8.0 includes a toggle which allows switching between Mozilla and Microsoft's rendering engines.

Er, `Best` of both worlds...
