Hello,
I recently got an Amiga 3000. When I got it the battery had leaked so I removed the battery and tried out the 3000. The floppy drive worked intermittantly, and when it did work it took forever to start booting from floppy. It also doesnt recognize any SCSI drives. So I replaced the battery, stripped it down to a basic 3000 (only had a Mercury 040 with 32 megs of ram in it - took that out) and determined the floppy drive cable was bad so I replaced it. After this the machine consistantly booted to WB3.1 from floppy at normal speed. I then put the Mercury back in and now it wont boot again like before. The power light isnt on, and the HD light blinks. But it does come up to the screen asking you to put in a floppy with the animation. After a long delay it tries the floppy but doesnt work. I had some questions about it... The Mercury has two floppy drive type connectors on the top, and one of the floppy drive power plugs was plugged into the first one. Is this supposed to be there? Also, since the CMOS was reset by dead battery, is there any settings in CMOS that could affect the Mercury? I don't plan to use SCSI hard drives because I have bigger IDE drives. I will put an external SCSI cd-rom with it though. I will use an X-Surf 3 for IDE controller. Does it just sound like the Mercury is dead? Supposedly the previous owner had this fully working before he put it in the closet some years ago. I havent changed any jumpers on anything. Thanks, Neofree |

IIRC, it is a passthrough so you can power the floppy off of it. I don't know where my manual is so I can't look it up.
