Default OVERCLOCKED XC68060RC50

i fitter the wrong processor to my blizzppc only to discover that a XC68060RC50 can go pass 66.66mhz..

this processor drains a lot of power when overclocked..

im typeing this with the processor clock at 68mhz & i think it can go higher..

first i got lots of lock-ups,but just increased the voltage on the processor set at 3.330v..it now works fine..

5v rail set at 5.15v..

NOTE: all my crystal osc are 10ppm..my a1200 has also been changed to 10ppm osc..

Aim running this with no heatsink...dont worry theres lots of airflow..

i will like to add that i added extra cooling for my A1200..

this is done by drilling lots of small holes on the desk & fitting two fans underneath ( sucking air out )

A1200 DESKTOP..CONTROLED BY ANTEC TRUECONTROL POWERSUPPLY..

JUST TO ADD..

i could not get this processor at first to go pass 66.66mhz..

so it seems 10ppm osc & a increase in voltage makes it work at 68mhz..

NOTE: PPC also 68mhz 10ppm...a1200 main board 28.3752 changed to a 10ppm osc..

Ok then, what are you doing?

Maybe I already know. You are straigning amiga hardware. Inreasing voltages, speeding up clockrates? Doesn't sound good to me. Surely the higher voltages helps your du/dt ratio (change in voltage/change in time). But it can cause havoc on the silicon. I hope you don't have too much overshoot (thats a sort of voltage spike that occures after a signal change).

Be carefull; amiga hardware does not grow on trees you know.

@EFFY

no?..i dont have a camera..will get one soon..

but i do have some great tips on overclocking BLIZZPPC & BVISION..

iv been overclocking the BLIZZPPC for over five years..iv blown up two boards & i do not want anyone to make the same mistakes..

I don´t have any overclocking experience, but I do have respect for those who can do it, no matter if it´s Amiga hardware or motorcycles. I also know that many overclockers only know half of the story that they are doing but when you have got five years of experience then this may seem a lot less dangerous

@DOPPIE

thanks for the warning but my machine has been like this for a year & a half..

i only have one problem, & that is my miner damaged prelude locks-up my a1200..

i also think its better to have the processors powered on it own power rail.....no fans,motors ect to effect to line..CLEAN POWER NO VOLTAGE DROP due to motors ect..

it works great..i can leave a game running over night & it still going in the morning..

i dont get any errors ( except for buggie software )..not a single error..

KEY POINTS FOR BLIZZPPC: keep the four chips cool along with the ppc chip & 68k chip..

the chip under the BLIZZPPC heatsink get very hot this is also due to to chip on the other side which also get very hot..

if you keep the four chips cool on your BLIZZPPC, you will have a extremely stable a1200 like mine..

MY COOLING SET-UP

BVISION: ram chips has thermaltake heatsink... other three chips have standard heatsink..

BLIZZPPC: the main heat ( PHASE 5 )has a cut-out 30mmx30mmx5mm this has been replaced with a heatsink with a built in fan..( you can replace the fan )..

i took this route because if the fan failed it will act as a normal PHASE 5 heatsink with the orginal fan still working....the new heatsink/fan has direct contact with PPC chip..

this route also makes it still fit in a A1200...

the other four chips also has heatsink fitted..

2x128mb simms fitted with akasa heatsink..BOTH sides on BOTH simms..

NOTE: you can **not** do this without a small mod to the 68K soldering on the BLIZZPPC..

@FRAMIGA

i will not be keeping this processor..i put this in by mistake & found it can go pass 66.66mhz with 10ppm crystals & a increase in voltage..

i will be fitting back a MC68060RC66E or MC68060RC60 (rev 71E41J )..
