Default Amiga graphics tablets

Do you guys have any experiences with Amiga graphics tablets?
What ports do they use to connect to standard A1200, what software supports graphics tablets, are there issues with AGA etc?
Thanks.

I think if there are no more Amiga tablets available then i should go with USB Wacom and get USB for A1200 also.

I dunno what you mean about *Amiga* graphic tablets, but I wrote a driver for some serial tablets a few years ago called "FormAldiHyd". You might get some second hand tablets of the supported kind (Aiptek 6000) on eBay.

years ago (like in the late 80's) Rose and Doug Lovell (R&D L Productions) used the Summagraphics table (seriel port) and wrote their own driver. It was like having a second mouse so it worked no matter what the OS was. I remember being able to use it with OS3.5 and 3.9

Of course, those tablets are no longer being made. There was some sort of tablet before that but it was kinda "cheap". The summagraphics had a stylus with two buttons so you could emulate both mouse buttons. It was great for use with DPaint and their (R&D L) LightBox software.

a little Amiga history lesson :-D

Up until recently, Wacom sold tablets with a serial interface and provided support for Amiga OS and certain applications. You should contact Wacom and see if any of their current tablets are supported by existing software.

Just a quick notice about FormAldiHyd (on serial tablets).

It fully works with:
- AipTek HyperPen 6000 (maybe other boards aswell, still unconfirmed).
- AipTek HyperPen 8000
- Aldi/Medion MD 9310 and Aldi/Tevion LT 9310

It works partly with:
- Wacom IV compatible (Graphire, ArtPad, A3, A4, A5 and PenPartner)
- SummaGraphics compatible boards (unconfirmed).
- AceCad boards (unconfirmed)

It does currently NOT work with:
- Wacom V series (Intuos) (might be added on demand)

As for USB tablets, these need to be conforming to the HID specs to work nicely with the Poseidon USB Stack. The AipTek ones do (AFAIK), however, the Wacom ones are pretty bad at this and will only work in "mouse mode" without a special driver.

I have an e3works STYLO tablet that works very
well under poseidon on MorphOS. I imagine it
would work well on an Amiga system with USB too.

You can see it here:

I purchased a used 10x12 Summagraphics tablet quite a few years ago and managed to get the R&D L Productions driver. Serial port with an adapter. Hadn't really messed with it to much since I don't have the stylus to draw with, only the "puck". Ever try to draw with a puck? Not much fun...

the "puck" is for tracing a drawing. that doesn't make it fun, but at the time that was all we really had.

Hi,

I own a Genitizer GT-906 tablet, connected to the second serial port of my MFC-III and it works great with the SummaGraphics driver supported by FormAldiHyd.

@platon42
Thanks for writing this good piece of code! Is the address in the manual still valid? I owe you a postcard :-D

Hello,

The Easyl by Anakin Reserach used a Zorro Slot adapter for connection. I'm pretty sure that it was a custom manufactured device and not a PC Item, considering it was manufactured in 1986.

Cheers
