Hi
What happen to Magnetic RAM or Spintronics technology? Is this technology ready for the market? Thank you =================================== Article from 2004: One long-term contender is MRAM, Magnetic Random Access Memory, which has been brewing in the labs for around thirty years. Despite this extraordinarily long gestation, many of the companies involved -- Motorola, IBM, HP, NEC and all the other major memory companies developing this technology -- promise commercial use in the next year or so. Motorola has gone as far as describing MRAM as 'universal memory', because of its potential to replace all other sorts of memory chip. |

I just had dinner with the founder of NVE two nights ago, you might want to check out www.nve.com
I believe they licensed out some of the technology for some company to produce it, but I don't have the name off the top of my head. Heres their licensing page: http://www.nve.com/company/licenses.php I would suggest exploring some of those companies. |

Some more details:
Here's a datasheet for some PDA MRAM made by Cypress Semiconductor Corporation. http://www.in-system.com/cfuploads/img/products/cy9c62256.pdf |

>Cypress
Cypress plan to sell its MRAM division because of concern about profit: It looks like MRAM is a failed / unprofitable tecnology. http://mram-info.com/ "Based on our latest calculations at Cypress, we no longer believe that the 1T-1MTJ MRAM technology will be able to successfully attack the SRAM market, leaving MRAM as a niche technology with higher bit pricing than that of SRAM." About Motorola / Fresscale MRAM: From Fool.com: NVE had long insisted it would be due royalties if Motorola commercialized the MRAM device described in its technical papers, but NVE recently backed away from this claim. Last summer, Motorola spun out part of its Freescale Semiconductor business, the unit that would produce the MRAM chips. On September 9th, at the Smith Barney technology conference, Freescale's president Scott Anderson told investors he had never heard of NVE. In its November SEC filing, NVE claimed it is trying to work out a new license with the soon-to-be-independent Freescale, but admitted there "can be no assurance...that NVE would receive any value under the existing Patent License Option Agreement [with Motorola] or any value under any such further agreement with Freescale." So much for those royalties! |
