Chaps, I have been looking around for quite a while now and I still haven't found what I need, which is a pair of 32mb SIMMS, 60ns, but single-sided, to put on my PPC card. I found some on ebay for about $16 and ordered them. They arrived today and I tested them and they don't work. I haven't been able to determine whether they are faulty or simply not of the required type but the bottom line is I tested them in various combinations on my PPC card and my DKB card and they don't work.
Soooo after a long time with fruitless searches on the net and ebay I am beginning to think these are difficult to find. If you have a pair of these and are willing to sell, let me know because there's no reason why I should let my PPC card continue to have 96mb when it can have 128mb. Edit: the reason I want single-sided is because a double-sided SIMM won't fit because of the crystal oscillator next to the last SIMM socket. As it is, a single-sided SIMM such as the 16mb one that I have currently installed, almost rests on the oscillator. |

No problem, I understand fully why you're battling to get them. They just seem to be a rare item, I don't think you are letting me down. |

@X-ray:
May I ask why do you need single-sided 32MB simms? I can point you to normal double sided 32MB simms that work fine with CSPPC. Is it due a space issue, e.g. clock crystal on your CSPPC is in a socket? Alternatively, there are also extra slim double-sided 32MB simms out there that fit better than normal 16MB single-sided simms to most simm slots out there. EDIT: Oh, I guess I was too late with spotting your EDIT. :-) |

Ja, it is because of the oscillator. A single-sided SIMM already almost touches it (less than 1mm clearance), so unless the double-sided SIMM has its modules embedded flush with the PCB it is not going to fit. Edit: and I was too late spotting your edit that says you were late spotting my edit :-P |

I see simms fairly regularly, I'll try and keep an eye out.
I may even have one that's not being used - I can't remember for sure if it's a 16 or a 32 though...

@ Vince
I suspect I would need a matching pair though for the paired addressing. But I'm no expert. Anyone know whether I can have a SS SIMM in the cramped slot and a DS SIMM in the other slot, if they are both FPM and 60ns? If I can do that with no performance penalty I would be keen to buy your SIMM, Vince. |

I think my second oscillator sits a lot higher than yours. This picture hints at the difference: tall I wonder if i can get a right-angled adapter if all else fails (just my luck the adapter will be angled the other way) |

It's a bad picture, and doesn't really portray how slim this module is, however I agree...it would probably still be a longshot as far as fitting it with that tall oscillator in place.
Why don't you desolder the socket and put a 50mhz oscillator back in, like how it was originally supposed to be? It depends what you want more. Extra speed or more ram. :-) |

No, I don't want to bring a soldering-iron anywhere near my PPC board....I bought it second hand with everything as you see it in the pic. I don't know what oscillators were originally provided with the card, but it works fine and I won't meddle with it. I already had a bad experience with spacers, I don't want to push my luck.
It seems the SIMM adapters I remember are no longer to be found, but I remember them being similar to this but without the test circuitry and much smaller. Looks like I will have to find a single-sided SIMM. |

I bought a pair of 64MB single sided SIMM's ages ago (Before my PPC went pop)
But saying that I wouldnt sell them and they probably wouldnt help anyway as they are as tall as a house. :-) Wasnt I helpful?

"...probably wouldnt help anyway as they are as tall as a house..."
-------------------------------------------------------- Tall doesn't matter because I have cut the drive chassis cross-bar. But I suspect if I wanted to go the 64mb route, they wouldn't have to be single-sided since I would be using only 2 slots anyway

@ Acill
Thanks for offering, but I really do need single-sided. There is just no clearance for double-sided. I have spare 32mb double-sided, of various types, and not one will fit. |
