Default A1 XE & 3rd party CPU?

Hi
Is it possible to buy AmigaOne XE without any CPU module and use 3rd party CPU modules? (Single / Dual G4 CPU)

Dual G4 1.2 GHz CPU module

Single G4 1 GHz CPU module

Well...if they have the same CPU slots...which I doubt.

Even then, would AmigaOS make any use of 2 CPUs?? (Not counting the PowerUP cards :-D)

I also had the same thought :-D

Not about buying the motherboard without the CPU module, but about if it would be possible to use 3rd party CPU modules.

We know that the AmigaOne-XE uses the same processor slot as Apple, but is it also compatible¿¿¿

If it is not compatible, then I think that I'm going to buy the AmigaOneG3-SE ;-)

In the last spring Alan announced that they (Eyetech and MAI) had a deal which enabled them to use same CPU slot as Apple PowerMac (Apple's ‘Megarray’ CPU socket).

But I'm not sure if it is 100% compatible, because:
"
So for the next version of the AmigaOne, the AmigaOne-XE, we have
borrowed the latest cpu socket technology from Apple in the form of
the purpose-designed `Megarray' socket. This means that we can make
low cost, tightly coupled cpu modules using either G3, G4, dual G4,
(and possibly G5 - but information on the G5 is still very sparce)
technology - for use on the same AmigaOne-XE motherboard. Upgrading
cpu power therefore only needs a simple module exchange. The prototype
socketed AmigaOne-XE board and the associated plug-in G3 and G4
modules have already been built and tested. (written by Alan Redhouse)"

If one might be able to fit third party CPU card .. then I do not know if they need some special support from the OS for every different card.

Wrong apple has gone itanium
so lets see now motorla has dropped the Gseries so has Ibm and now mac. Nope A1 wont ever come out. or if it ever does maybe just mayebe some, about 50 will be bought. Amiga is dead . Now the pegasos team will sell about 1k, better hardware wise, but its dead too because it wants to stick with 32bit os which is better then the 8bit os by amiga, but it wont move up to the Itanium which will be the standard by next year, but linux has and is now true 64bit and real-time with the itanium.
The Itantium has been used on Advanced Servers for a while now . Like the 586 when it first came out prices soon dropped enough for it to be avaible to the public . It will happen this christmas or soon after Im hearing by feburary at the latest.

:-x :-D

1) Using the same socket dosn't mean anything. Apple doesn't even use its own sockets consistently. For example the 2x AGO mac models with 100mhz busses have the socket flipped 180 degrees from the 4x AGP 133mhz models.

2) If Apple were to adopt a different architecture like Itanium they would have to inform developers many months in advance just like they did when adopting PowerPC or PCI or Mac OS X. There has not been ONE WHISPER regarding non-PowerPC Mac architectures.

Apple is sticking with PowerPC.

A Pentium in the A1...the horror...!

But seriously, why buy a ~£500 motherboard to stick a x86 in it when a £50 motherboard would do the same job?

Eh, what? where did you pick up this info???

If anything I'd expect them to go w/IBM's Power4 which is at least a PowerPC spinoff.

See this page or this one.

So the A1 (600mhz) is £423 just for the mainboard and nothing else ???
