Default Retro News: PowerPC News Interprets the Amiga

While searching for PowerPC info, I came across this little gem from 1995 about the up coming Power PC Amiga when CHRP was the word.

That news report foreshadows the future in a really eerie way. First, Petro Tyschtschenko on Amiga's future form:

"[Petro Tyschtschenko] is clear that the Amiga's strength is in its software - though asked whether in a few years time Amiga Technologies will just be a software house, he answers frankly 'I don't know, I don't have a crystal ball'."

Then, a few lines down, the next article talks about the company that spawned the other major player:

"Visual Information Services Corp is licensing Amiga Technologies GmbH's hardware and software technology to use in a television and set-top box combination. The Chicago, Illinois-based company was established specifically to develop proprietary and Amiga-based set-tops boxes and has ex-engineering staff from Commodore International Ltd among its development team."

VisCorp was headed by Raquel Velasco and Bill Buck, now of course the Genesi principals.

Yes, and they were most notable for not paying Carl Sassenrath and various other developers, and being blamed as the chief cause of Almathera going bust... :-(

Yeah, kinda spooky isn't it.
The more things change, the more they stay the same, or pretty damn close.

Depends on what you mean by "headed." Bill took over running the show from Mr. Brunnel<sp> of Atari fame. He was not in complete run of the show however, having to answer to a chairman of the board.

And it was the board in the end which killed the Amiga deal, and caused such bad blood so I understand.
