Hi all,
i've just purchased, a new flat cable for the CSPPC UWSCSI controller. Its a "twisted-pair" 68 wires, with a LVD/SE (double system> LVD and Single Ended) terminator. I have a doubt about the terminator . . .it is OK? The HD is a Fujitsu MAB3091SP*(SCSI3 single ended 68 pins) Thanks in advance :-) |

@Framiga:
If the terminator is a LVD/SE one, it will sense wether the SCSI-bus is operating in LVD or SE mode. As atleast one of the devices on the bus doesn't support LVD (the CSPPC SCSI controller), the bus will be operating in SE mode and thus will the LVD/SE terminator sense that. In other words - it should work .Do you have a regular active terminator (SE) in the other end? (edit): If it doesn't work well, you will quite soon find out in one way or another. SE is rather sensitive if you run it at the maximum of 20MHz. /Patrik |

Hi patrik
yes i have an active terminator that i'm still useing (i've not installed the new cable yet) Only 1 Hd installed (built-in active termination) and 1 active terminator (SE) for the other end (controller). I'm thinking now, to remove the HD built-in active termination and to use: the old active terminator at one end and the new cable (with its LVD/SE terminator) at the other end. What do you think? |

@Framiga:
Sounds like a good idea. Just remembered something when thinking about the CSPPC. I think the CSPPC manual stated that it did not supply any termination power, so don't forget to set atleast one device - the harddrive in your case, to supply termination power for the bus. /Patrik |

Each CSPPC I've come across does supply termination power. They just don't supply the termination.

Just installed :-)
yes Roj . . . no need of TermPower. I thought as patrik, that CSPPC SCSI controller doesn't supply the TermPower from the HD. I were wrong. As a side note . . . this HD starts and seems to "work" (i've done only a couple of boot) even without termination . . .really weird. Thanks both |

@Framiga:
With "without termination", do you mean that both ends are unterminated? /Patrik |

not, only from HD side (the new cable has the terminator soldered on the flatcable).
I said "weird", because my previous IBM UWSCSI, was really sensible to termination. Bye |

Aye, I have been running like that for a few weeks when I didnt have two terminators and it worked without issues, to my surprise. My harddrive is an IBM one btw (IBM DPSS-309170) ./Patrik |

@Framiga:
Nope, it it missing that. I haven't seen a LVD drive with built-in termination yet to be honest, maybe it is recommended in the SCSI-spec to not include termination on LVD drives. /Patrik |

Ah yep right . . . LVD hasn't built-in terminator.
Anyway mine was defective from the beginning (purchased used) and the thing went worse until it died. Pity because it was a little bit faster than the "new" one (Fujitsu). |
