Default A1 and (serious) Music production

Hello All!
I have been out of the scene for a while, but would desperately like to get back into Amiga with an A1. However, the main use I have for my PC (I know, I know... :-x ) is music production. In the olden days (80s) I used the fantastic Deluxe Music Construction Set for composition. I played around with the Tracker-style programs, but for one with my musical background, I found the notatinon software a little more familiar.

I need to know if there is likely to be any serious music software available for the new Amiga patform. I am talking about HDD recording software like SoundForge, sequencing software like Cubase and Cakewalk, and virtual Synth software like Reason.

Also, what are the MIDI capabilities likely to be of the A1? Will I be able to use a standard soundcard and connect a standard MIDI converter to the game-port? Will it have to be a USB MIDI interface?

Sorry for the many questions, but the availability of good music software will make or break my decision to get an A1.

One lost wanderer trying to keep the faith...

Rob

I have not heard of any NEW Pro Audio/Music Apps being developed for AmigaONE, mainly because it only runs Linux (and AmigaOS4 is far from being complete, possibly as late as next year but hopefully sooner).

There are plans for a few Apps ported from the classic Amiga, such as my favorite OctaMED sound studio. Although most users seem only interested in MP3 players. *shrugs*

Now within the Phoenix Developer Consortium, we are looking at the possibilities of forming a working group to jump into Pro Audio/Music development (software and hardware) for the new Pegasos PowerPC motherboard running MorphOS from Genesi.

We NEED more Pro Audio people to Join Phoenix Developer Consortium (and get a $299 developer Pegasos board) and help us develop new Pro Audio Apps.

One very cool feature of the Pegasos is the firewire port which (like a recent Mac computers) will connect to a lot of firewire enabled pro audio devices being released.

You will WANT to check out this press release from TC Electronics

Thanks for the reply Darth_X, but yes I was interested in OS4 applications, sorry for not specifying.

The MorphOS stuff is interesting, however, and I may be tempted... Ths only information I know about it is what I have picked up in these forums. Do you need a Pegasos board to run MorphOS? (prob an obvious answer, but i had to try) What sort of Apps are currently available? (All types, not just music) What about the future?

Maybe I would be best just using PCs for Music after all? Oh how I would love to be using a "real" computer and OS again... That said, Windows 2000 is pretty stable, if you can get over the fact that it is extremely bloated and inefficient. :-)

Anyway, thanks again for the info, and maybe MorphOS is what I've been looking for.

Best regards,

Rob

http://www.audio-evolution.com/ is being readied for OS4 and IIRC, AHI will have drivers for some of the Soundblaster series of cards.

Cool. This is exactly the sort of product I am after. (audio-evolution) Looks pretty comprehensive from what I can see on the web site. Now all I need is a decentr sequencer and some soft-synths.

Thanks John!
