Default King Harry of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha

>Prince Harry and Nazi Uniform

Hi
If something terrible happen to Prince Charles and Prince William, will the future King Of England be King Harry of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha?

Harry is the great-great grandson of the German Prince Albert Saxe-Coburg-Gotha who married Queen Victoria. The official name of the British Royal family before 1917 was Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Will the future King Harry restore the old family name?

What is the reaction from British WW II veterans?

This has not only shown Prince Harry's exceedingly poor taste (but remember, he's a 19 year old student), but will also offend many of both sides of the North Sea.

I can imagine the reaction for many modern Germans, (particularly those descended from Anglo-German aristocracy) will be outrage too. After all, associating a German with Nazi-ism is something our British press are good at and will be hugely offensive to the vast majority of Germans who see us as living in the past.

However, I cannot see the point of the original post?

Put it this way Asian1, my own surname originates from Koblenz as I can trace my ancestry back to German immigrants to the UK in at the end of the 19th Century. My own paternal grandfather fought at the Somme for the British, and there's evidence to suggest that he had first or second cousins fighting for the Kaiser. Would it make it more or less offensive if I were to turn up at a fancy dress do in an Afrika Corps uniform given my ancestry?

Ahhhh....

As a british citizen, I say; Who cares? Harry isn't even related to the Royal family anyway. I don't think his father was Charles :-D

Oh gods....so that is what it is about. Talk about making mountains of molehills. Although it is indeed pretty silly of him to do dress up as nazi in his position.

Talk about blowing something out of proportion.

I know he should have known better but I'm far more offended by the mock outrage than I am by someone wearing a Nazi uniform to a FANCY DRESS PARTY.

FFS, where do we draw the line?
Is he not allowed to dress up as anything that might offend someone?

Howard's demand that he go on telly and apologise is absurd and shows him up for the opportunistic c*nt that he is.

I'm no fan of the Royal family but I actually feel sorry for the little idiot.

Hum,
come to think of it, i don’t know of anyone else, or heard of anyone, ever, having gone to a party dressed as a Nazi....

Is he the first?

<stomping around the palace, and gesturing>
Perhaps he just normally dresses that way?

No, I'm sure his great uncle Edward VIII did it too. With the difference that Eddie was actually a Nazi sympathiser.

What will he ask for next?
Demand that all the actors in the stage version of "The Producers" make a public apology too.
Maybe they should get the BBC to apologise for "Allo allo" too?

He's even worse than "Billy Bandwagon" Hague was.

Other than the boy showing great stupidity for someone in his position (and he didn't ask to be born), he has done nothing wrong in my eyes.

This is an interesting one. I see two sides to this coin:

1) He wore the Nazi uniform to a fancy-dress party. When the uniform is viewed in that context, no offense should be taken as the wearer does not necessarily endorse the ideals of the uniform, as recorded historically.

2) The prince is a permanent ambassador of the royal family and is always in the public eye, not just locally but internationally. That is the price of royalty. As such he has no immunity from acts of embarrassment, even when such immunity would usually have been afforded Joe Public at a fancy-dress.

Now, speaking for myself, I wasn't offended by it. I could have worn that uniform and there would have been no hoo-haa about it. It doesn't mean either one of us is a Nazi. But the prince should have recognised that it MAY have offended someone, and should have spared the royals this embarrassment. Unfortunately not everyone is easy-going about these matters (see the Israeli response) and the prince, in his position, has less lattitude to get away with a stunt like that than we do.

The boy didn't ask to be born, and he can't abdicate from being a royal either. He's doing a great job of ruining the monarchy, hopefully one day he'll finish them off.

Oh, and Prince Phillip has done far worse than this, and he really should know better. "Slitty Eyed Chinks" and other such racist remarks from him over the years have shown him up to be the bigoted racist arse that he is. Harry is no Nazi, but Phillip more than likely is.
