Default Tvpaint and big images

Hi

I have and A4000 with a csppc and 144MB ram and I need tvpaint to make a very large picture (4920x2952). When I start it, it says that I haven't got enough ram for the undo buffer (which is very important of course).
But the workbench title bar says I have still ~60Mb free fast ram.
So I thought maybe this memory will be used for other layers or something. But as I tried to create another layer it also said "not enough memory"..
I don't understand this and its very anoying, also because don't have the time to get into photoshop or get winuae to work.. Is there some way I can make tvpaint to use the rest of my ram, too? Oh yeah and vmm doesn't work either on my system :-(

I guess the undo buffer needs multiple times as much RAM as the picture itself. As the picture alone needs more than 40MB, you probably just don't have enough memory for the undo buffer.

Also the memory shown in the title bar is the sum of all free memory chunks. It says nothing about the largest free block. Use the Avail command in a shell window to see the size of the largest continuous memory block.

Bye,
Thomas

there's not much to do :-(

or reduce the undo number or (if you can) use ImageFX instead with its own virtual memory.

Photogenics can also work with large images with it's own VirtualMemory. The best bet when working with larger graphic files is Photoshop. It would be worth your time to delve into it for a while. Not as intimidating as it may look. I learn something new every time I use Photoshop. Especially at work with an MacG3/os8/250mghz/124ram. Always running out of memory...

Thanks for the replies guys, I have now decreased the size to 3690x2214(which should also be enough) and now I have enough memory. Maybe I should really get into photoshop (also because its the industry standard) in the future.. or maybe I will get an micro aone if I have a lot of spare cash some day..
