Default BIG picasso trouble with voodoo

Hi

I have had my 1200 mediator voodoo 5 ppc stopped for a considerable amount of time, due a HD failure.

I have got a new HD and reinstalled the entire system with a new fresh 3.9. I installed the 3.9 as usual, the MUI, the boing bag 1, the boing bag 2 (not the rom update) and then the mediator system files, the enhanced voodoo drivers ( the one with come in the MMCD ) and then installed the latest MMCD update and MediatorUP from Elbox.

When all that have been done, I installed picasso as usual ( installing as CV64/3D, renaming the monitor, the tooltypes, and later reinstalling the picasso only for Monitorsettings ), but when I restart the machine, the picassoprefs tells me that there is no gfx board installed on the system, and I cant see the "ready" led on the svga monitor, nor if If I try to load the voodoo monitor file after the Wb is loaded. I simply doesnt do nothing.

I dunno what it can be, since when I make a pciinfo, it shows all my board in the mediator, the mediator seems to be working in the 1200 of a friend, the voodoo 5 works on a peecee, and all the devs seems to be ok

Please help!

Hello Frank,

I had exactly the same problems with a Voodoo5 after a hard drive failure. Following lengthy dialogue with Elbox, we finally figured out the problem. It's due to using the wrong versions of the voodoo.card driver and the pci.library.

You should be using voodoo.card v4.23 and pci.library v6.0+

If you run MedConfig, it will tell you what versions of all the relevant files you are using. You must ensure the driver and library are correct version.

Cheers,

JaX

EDIT: The PPC system may use different file versions, I don't remember, but the principle is the same.

Hi

Firtly thx for trying to help me.

The point is that I have managd to the the damn thing working, but only in the first boot!

When I starts the 1200 from off it boots up normally, I mean with full voodoo working, but, when I do a reset, then danm machine comeback to boot up iwthout voodoo ( no "ready" led pon the monitor, but the system is working, as i can ear the df0 clicking )

It seems that somewhat gets hot and hen the voodoo stops working here. The funny thing is that can have the 1200 working perfectly for all day if I dont do any reset : (

please help!

Try re-seating the cards again (let the machine cool down first). Clean all the metal contacts with alcohol or white spirit.
The other thing is the voodoo card may be getting too hot, have you replaced the fans on the voodoo card? as the ones sold with the card are not cool enough for the chips, these cards get very hot.

try wwww.overclockers.co.uk for cooler fans.

Is your power supply feeding enough power to the mediator board?
