I want to get my A1200/030 connected up to my PC via a network. I have a D-Link DWL-650+ wireless PCMCIA network card. Does anyone know if this will work?
***EDIT*** Might just be easier to buy a PCMCIA network card off Ebay, how about this one: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=14922&item=5709295 361&rd=1 Its 16-Bit which I read on the forum somewhere I need for it to work with my A1200 |

G'day Twin,
No you won't be able to use a wireless card. It requires the Operating System to know about wireless communication, and that was a bit before the time of the miggy.. A 10Mbit 16bit PCMCIA network card should work fine, as long as it doesn't have anything fancy on it. Like a combo network/modem or if its certain types of 3Com. There are combatibility charts out there on the web. That one on ebay won't work. It's a CARDBUS type card. I'm pretty sure the seller has mis interpreted it as a 16bit card. I have bought quite a few PCMCIA cards for my Amigas here, and I found as long as I stick to 10Mbit, and standard PCMCIA from a generic brand all was good. I'll see if I can dig around ebay for some more suitable ones for ya.. Regards... |

and if you want to be completely sure your pcmcia card works, better check cnetdevice.lha on aminet, there's a doc with supported cards....some 16bit won't work!

There is also the Access Point choice, here is a good review about it: http://www.swaug.org.uk/dlinkdwl-810.html
Also a note about wireless communication: it is as TCP/IP as with wires, so Miami DX handles this just fine provided you got a router. |
