Hi all!
Looking at the a1200 accelerators on amigakit http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...oducts_id=1100 and http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...oducts_id=1113 wondering.. does the 020 card make the Amiga faster? Is'nt 16Mhz the standard speed? Or will it just give me more mem? Does the 030 card have any other advantages over 020 besides the speed? Cheers! |

The ACA1220 will undoubtly make your stock A1200 faster:
Standard A1200 = 1.37 SysInfo Mips (aprox) A1200 + ACA1220 = 3.48 SysInfo Mips (aprox) StandardA1200 = 2MB of chip ram A1200 + ACA1220 = 2MB of chip ram + 128MB of fastmem Not only the mips (cpu) is important regarding speed, because with that much fastmem on the ACA1220 you can probably put all your system structures on fast memory (your entire System might also fit there), and you will get this way an added bonus in improved performance. ACA1232 vs ACA1220 issue: Besides speed and MMU (this last one useful on some rare ocassions), I guess there isn´t something else that makes the ACA1232 stand above the ACA1220. |

However the 68EC020 in the Amiga 1200 can't access more than 16mb of ram (and you lose some of that to rom and custom chip registers). Just adding fast ram will make an A1200 faster, as it can't run full speed with only chip ram. The extra 2mhz you might not notice, but without that 68020, you can't have 128mb of ram. The 030 is quicker, has an MMU and can map the rom into ram (which also makes it quicker). It's more expensive, but if you want the speed then it's worth it. I'd go solely for the 030 option, no question.

The only question you have to ask yourself is: What will I use it for? If you're only interested in WHDLoad games, then the ACA 1220 is perfectly fine, no need to spend almost 50 pounds more. If you want to use Workbench and applications that require some CPU speed, then go for the ACA 1232.
No higher resolutions I'm afraid. |

All right, thank you, good to know. Games are the main thing .. Other software and work will have to wait until the netbook is relased. |

Those numbers are looking good.
A bit slower than an A3000/25Mhz with Integer (which you'd expect with the slower speed), but not much. And faster graphics performance... All in all, that's a nice looking little card.. If I didn't have my ACA1230/28 (Thanx Amigakit!!!), I'd probably pull the trigger. ;-) desiv
