Default Kickstart Problems

I have read some old posts about this topic, but was wondering if there was any new way to accomplish this. I just bought an Amiga 1000 to play some old games on. I have two A500's, but wanted the same system I had when I was growing up. My problem is that the only kickstart disk I have (1.1) doesn't work or the floppy drive won't read it. In any case, I don't know how to verify the drive works without a kickstart. It spins and makes all the noises I remember. (Almost worth the price of the system alone!) I own every version of Amiga Forever for the last 4 or 5 years. Is there any way to make the disks from the Amiga Forever images on a PC or Mac without the expense of a Catweasel? I am sure ya'll are going to say get a Catweasel, but I thought I would ask! In any case, I am going to be on the lookout for original software packs that came with the A1000 to purchase as well. I would just like to know if the system is working. Thanks!

P.S. The Kickstart Hand screen does come up.

Well, I am thinking that I can use Amiga Explorer that came with my Amiga Forever to make a disk using a serial connection from my PC to my Amiga... Maybe...

Try getting a drive cleaner before you start spending. It might be a simple case of the thing needs a good clean. I piacked a drive cleaner up from Maplin for £2 and that resolved a lot of issues, until the drive went click clink crunch lol.

If it's spinning and making sounds it's promissing. However I am not sure how you would get Amiga Exploring on your 1000 if you can't get to any kind of DOS.

No, because the ROMs on the Cloanto package have a bit altered to prevent copying.
If you have a hex editor, someone here might know what the bit is suppose to be on a normal ROM and you could change it.

Otherwise google for a copy (pirated? if you already own a copy?).
There are several sites that you can download old disks and ROMs from.

I'm pretty sure the kickstart disks can be formatted like a regular Amiga disk.

Once (Win)UAE is running, you can grab the kickstart image within the emulation using the traditional tools. Then use WriteKickDisk to make a new physical disk for your A1000. You'll have to do the latter part from your A500, of course.
