Hello Amiga World! I'm BACK!

By now, everyone had forgotten about me, as I left the Amiga scene in 1990 haven't thought about the Amiga until August 2012. Now, I'm on AMIGA.org to make new friends and maybe, find my old Amiga friends back in the day. Thanks for having me on this site, however I rarely do 3rd party forums.

The name Amiga geeks knew me as, was Marc Miranda; I can't remember what my handle was back then.

Back in the day, 1988 to be specific, I was introduced to the Amiga 500 from Arthur T. Murray, sales promoter for the Navy Exchange (Naval Station Puget Sound). After my dad purchased the A500 for my birthday and early high school graduation gift, Mr. Murray also introduced the Fish Disks from Fred Fish as well as inviting me to an Amiga-centric club. My A500 accessories came from OMNI in North Seattle, just North of Green Lake.

My memories of my A500 are now fading away; I'm hoping running AmigaOS via emulation will help me recall the stuff I had forgotten. I was never a gamer... I spent my free times writing code. I remember writing Assembly & BASIC code on my A500. I also ran a Citadel BBS, I think it was STadel, but can't really remember. My old BBS # was 206-DOG-CLAW (don't call it because I no longer use it!). I think my BBS SysOp handle was "sparecat". Since I couldn't afford a hard drive back then, I wasn't accepting many files.

Now, thanks to Amiga Forever, I'm running Amiga systems via emulation and I'm ran into limitations! I can't remember how to do the geeky stuff I used to do when I was 18 years old! The Amiga terminology looks like a foreign language to me! I've discovered the say command, again, and have been making the Amiga talk. I'm able to do some simple customizations, but I can't remember how to run applications in A500 beyond what's available in Workbench. I guess I am a newbie, again. -- Hopefully, people here in this forum will be able to help me learn what I had already forgotten.

P.S. - Christmas is approaching... I wouldn't mind receiving an Amiga personal computer as a gift...

Welcome back! Amiga Forever is great package to keep up your Amiga hobby if you don't have (or have room for) actual Amiga hardware. And it's a much cheaper/easier way to play with a heavily-expanded configuration. Be sure to check out Aminet which is our best file repository these days. It contains all of the Fish disks and truckloads more, with new things added daily.

Hope you're doing well in Manila - I know it's been a rough couple of weeks there.

Hello Matt! You're in the place I was born... Actually, I was born in Lynn, but that was a long time ago.

I've been in Philippines since 2006... I got married here. My last visit to the USA, was in March 2008, for 3 weeks in Seattle to see my parents.

It looks like I'm the only Amiga user/fan in the Philippines! Wow! No competition!

I was also drawn back by emulation, but you'll soon miss the real Amiga experience. My advice is to get an A500 (512KB+512KB) with an additional floppy drive. That should get you going, and is dirt cheap (about 20 bucks?).

Anyways... you could do a special reconnaissance mission for all Amigans and snoop around the old Amiga factories in Philippines Who knows what you may find there !

Hello Lord Aga!

Cloanto Corporation, after upgrading my from Amiga Forever Value Edition to Amiga Forever Plus Edition, informed me there are other Amigans in the Philippines. I'm presuming those Amigans, if any, are running game houses with Amiga games.

Regarding the A500... I'm not sure if my old A500 (512KB+512KB) from 1988 is still at my parents home in Seattle. I'm presuming I sold it, but I recall seeing the A500 box in my dad's closet (my old bedroom) when I visited Seattle in 2008. I haven't called my dad, yet. It would be something if my old A500 is still there, because I can't remember selling it; my dad wouldn't have let me.

Amiga computers in the Philippines... Not sure if there were any factories here. The late President Cory Aquino, whom was Philippine president at the time Amiga was popular in the USA, I don't think traded Amiga in the country. The data I've collected is that Microsoft's MS-DOS was oversaturated in Philippines from 1987-1992(?). Most, if not all, antique computers in the Philippines were exported to other countries.
