Read what I wrote a few posts back, ive ran it on 1 meg using ClassicWB lite no extras minimal install, WB 1.3 theme and 4 color mode, it runs fine, not optimal but fine.

Edit: I would still rather use an older WB version, but it will work.

Pointless yes, but the original poster asked if he could run it, not if it's practical, but doing as I said and you will be left with about 500KB chip left (you can remove a bit to save a lill more), Depending on what you want to do 500KB is plenty or nothing, so ill leave it up to the thread starter to decide if it's somehting he want to do or not. Still nothing I would use in the long run.

Workbench 3.1 requires Kickstart 3.1 (3.0 might work too) and 512K RAM, you will have about 300K to play with after booting up, but installing 3.1 actually requires 1M because of the bloated installation tool and its huge script.

The installation is just a matter of copying files, so if you have a way of transferring files onto the hard drive of your 512K Amiga then you can just finish the installation in WinUAE and move the files over and you're good.

I have gone online on IRC with 1MB, played MUDs with 1MB, and run a few programs at once comfortably, on an A600 with Kickstart 3.1 and Workbench 3.1. Here's an old video showing a multi-window MOD player playing some music while I change the palette presets: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTLvrhlNdyc

You can use the workbench 3.1 disk on kickstart 3.0, but as workbench itself is stored in rom then it won't be much different.

I've run Workbench 3.1 on several Kickstart 3.0 A1200s over the years without a single problem. I don't think I ever even used Workbench 3.0 at all. It is 100% compatible, and probably improved over 3.0, even on 3.0 ROMs. It is only certain software that requires Kickstart 3.1, as well as Workbench 3.5 and 3.9 of course.

I have an A2000 with an '030 that I run 3.5 on. 3.9 runs to slow, and hogs way to much memory. This is a great setup for the A2000/2000HD
As other's have stated, there was no 3.0 KS ever made for the A2000, only 3.1, but that works out fine.
Yes you are right even on my Amiga 4000/30 with 18 MB RAM 3.9 is not so fast. It takes a long time to boot up. Are there something i can do to make it faster? change color or background picture etc?

Somewhat. Add more fast RAM, and use routines that allow using Fast RAM rather than chip RAM for as much as possible. I am not familiar with all of the routines/programs that do this however. Maybe some others can help here.
