Little OT:
Cloanto, Just give up the kickstart/workbench rights (whatever you have) and don't hold them as hostage.

Perhaps they cant because they only are licensing them, or whatever? Keep in mind: Cloanto donated considerably to aros kickstart bounties.

Holding them hostage? Out of curiosity, was the legal status of Kickstart ever really determined? If Cloanto is just a licensee, the hostage-holding is not on its head. As well, even if Cloanto owned the licenses the discretion still belongs to it as to whether or not to release Kickstart (everyone wants something for free, it seems) or to license or Kickstart to others for distribution or updating.

Irrespective of who actually owns the Kickstart rights, I would like to see a project to produce updated ROMs which match the current OS releases. Licensing for specific modifications would be nice, as well. I suppose that falls under the "hostage-holding."

The problem with licensing for modifications (even custom) is you never really know what's going to happen with the ROM once it's produced. But then, anyone who has the ability to copy a ROM to another physical ROM also has the ability to produce his own modified ROMs in the first place. This fact would seem to mitigate that concern.
