I would like to paint the plastic casing on my flat-panel monitor to match the colors of my Amiga 2000. I want the base and arm of the monitor to be the darker color, and the rest of the monitor to be the lighter color. I already have the flat-panel monitor disassembled and the plastic case parts have been cleaned and are ready to paint.

After the paint drys for 48 hours, I will reassemble the monitor and attach an Amiga tick logo sticker on the front, basicly the same logo that is on the front of the Commodore 1080 Amiga monitor.

Anyway, do any of you know what spray paint closely matches the two colors of the Amiga 2000?

Depends on how long you left it in the sunlight and how heavy a smoker you are.

I tried to find a color to match and had a very hard time. I ended up buying like 5 different spray cans and they were no where near close. I think you will have to have some mixed up and matched at a paint store.

Another idea is to go to the paint store and some of them have little cards with the paint colour on them. Grab a few that you think are close, take them home and put them up against the A2000 and see which is the best match.

One way to do this and have it turn out perfect is to use Varikote, a German product available in the US from Parasol.

Ideally, you'll want to send in a sample for color matching. You can apply the dye with a spray gun attached to your air compressor, or buy it in aerosol cans. The latter will be more expensive as I believe there is a minimum for custom colors.

Lots of light coats. The nice thing about dye is it penetrates the pores of the plastic, and looks absolutely factory when done.

Krylon Camouflage Khaki 4291 paint closely matches the darker colored front of the Amiga 2000. The only problem is that it is a flat finish. So after the paint dries for a few days, you should pray on a satin clear paint.

Now, I have to find a paint that matches the lighter color. I tried Krylon Satin Almond, but, it was to light. I think Dark Almond will match. I was also looking at Rust-Oleum Soft Wheat Satin Paint 7963830.

I do not use water based (latex) paint. Oil based (enamel) paints are higher quality and produce a much nicer looking, tougher finish. Also, I prefer to spray on the paint, not brush it on.

Commodore never produced a flat panel Amiga monitor, so, mine will be the first, complete with the official Amiga tick logo on the front, just like the 1080 Amiga monitor. In fact, I am thinking about printing a nice looking 1080F label to attach to the front right corner of the monitor. I will post pictures of it when I am finished with it. Takes at least 2 weeks for oil based paint to fully harden, so I can not reassemble the monitor until then.

Ok, it's official, the lighter color of the Commodore Amiga 2000 is Satin Almond (Krylon Fusion #2437) or Semi-Gloss Almond. The reason for the difference in the color is because all Amiga 2000 computers are at least 20 years old. In that time the paint has lightened or darkened, depending on the conditions of the room that the computer was kept in all these years.

Well, I finished my custom 1080F Amiga flat panel monitor. I uploaded a picture in the Amiga 2000 area of the Gallery. Take a peek and tell me what you think. I used Krylon Fusion paint, which is a special paint for plastic.

I noticed lines on my MagicWB that was not there when I had my crt monitor hooked up. Is this because of the flat panel monitor being in a lower resolution then recommended? The lines are not there under normal Workbench 3.1, just when I use MagicWB.

I remember using "Almond" spray for an A3000 that I eventually sold. It was very close to the original color and covered the scuffs completely. A2000 might be a bit different for most of the case, but might be close enough.
