It would be nice if a North American distributor could get some of these, so I could avoid that atrocious taxation.

That doesn't seem to be the case in NTSC-land. Even some high end Samsung and Sharp displays sold here don't handle PAL signals. I'm sure the hardware is capable, but the firmware just doesn't allow it.

^ That's really tough luck bro Finding a decent way to display our Amiga goodness is hard as it is, without having to add the PAL/NTSC headache.

Loads of good converters around. As an added bonus if the conversion is lousy you'll never notice on an NTSC set anyway (sorry, I just couldn't resist). :P

What is the difference between PAL and the current standard of DVB-T? I've come to think of PAL as just SD DVB-T, but is that correct?

Main difference is that PAL (and NTSC) is analog, DVB-T is digital and has to be decoded.

So TVs sold in this country have DVB-T and support PAL, they seem to support NTSC, would they also support ASTC or do they choose the digital decoding in the manufacturing? In other words is digital decoding an either or situation where they either put a DVB-T or ASTC decoder but not both?

You need a USA (110V) PSU (from a 1200 of 500 is fine).

Then you need a display.
If you have a 1084s or similar monitor, you're good.
If you have a scandoubler, you're good.

It won't output to your NTSC television.
