Update: Ok, color me silly - I found in the bottom of an old Commodore box of mine the original AmigaDos 3.1 install disks. So I think I can get 3.1 up and running easy enough, they should work.
The A4000 I bought has a Buddha controller in it but no install floppies. Otherwise, I'd be all set at this point. I can download the drivers but not easily get them onto Amiga formatted floppy. Thanks everyone for the ideas and help. I guess I'm down to just finding a CDFS on Amiga floppy. I'd pay someone for the disk and shipping if they'd just copy the demo IDE-fix onto it for me. That'd get my cd working long enough to install 3.5 and then I'm golden.

Thanks EVERYONE for getting me going again. Sorry to have asked such a simple question. Now that I'm working on the A4000, everything is starting to come back. I'm using Crossdos right now to transfer the drivers for the Budha which includes CDFS. I'm waiting on my 3.1 ROMS to be delivered so once those are in, I'm ready to install OS 35. I really appreciate the help. That is my fondest memory of the Amiga community. How willing people were to help another Amiga user out. On the Linux forums I use, I'd have just been labeled a noob and told the read the manual. (If it was that polite.) Thanks again. :-) -Nyle

It could be that your Workbench is currently using a 4 color screenmode. If this is the case, you can change it with ScreenMode (located in Prefs drawer). Just set it to 16 colors or more.

Another solution is to get a CF card with the full install on it from someone nearby and use a IDE -> Cf adapter to install it on your Hard Drive I made one a few weeks ago and mailed it to the person.

Sorry, I should have added that the Buddah controller install disk has a full version of IDEfix on it ad does the Amiga Forever CD. Maybe some could attach an ADF of the Budda disk -- I have one
