Default Trying to get PCMCIA CF support...

So I've got a CF card and a PCMCIA adapter for it, to ease file transfer to my 1200. However, I'm having trouble getting fat95 installed so I can get cfd installed so I can actually mount the thing. I downloaded fat95 v3.11 from Aminet, but the "Install" icon in the /english folder doesn't seem to work. Looking at it, it looks like it just calls fat95/l/install95 - when I run that from the CLI, it complains that it's supposed to be called as "install95 <rlw> <language>." Language is easy enough to figure out, but what's rlw? Should it normally be this trouble?

Yeah, it kind of looked from other threads like you could, I just wasn't sure, since it has a config file. I'll give it a shot.

No luck; both devices are installed, and the "CF0:" icon for cfd will run, but it won't mount the volume.

Not all CF cards will work.

The PCMCIA is more pickier about the card than the IDE.

What card are you using?

It's very simple to get it to work:
1. put compactflash.device to sys:devs
2. put fat95 to sys:l
3. put CF0 file to sys:devs/DOSDrivers

Open the CF0 file with ED and see if is configured at least like that:
filesystem = l:fat95
Device = compactflash.device

Works fine in A600 and A1200

Good luck.

Using CF cards in PCMCIA is pretty straight-forward once those three files are installed, but if you insert a card and it doesn't show up on the Workbench desktop then the card isn't compatible. I have used a bunch of CFs with PCMCIA and IDE on the Amigas, some cards just don't work. I have always had 100% good luck with Sandisk brand CF cards, but lots of random hits and misses with other brands. I recently tried one of these and it didn't work on any of the A1200s through PCMCIA, but it worked through the Subway USB on the A1200, and also worked as an IDE drive, which it has been designated as now. I even tried re-formatting it as FAT32 in both MorphOS and AmigaOS while it was plugged in through a USB adapter, then tried it again in PCMCIA without any luck.

So just keep trying with different cards, it should work eventually as long as Fat95, CF0 and CompactFlash.device are in their right places.

The card I've got now is from a Hong Kong outfit called First Champion Technology; works fine on XP and Win2k, but I'll try and nab a SanDisk card for comparison. Shoulda known this would be one of the things where it doesn't pay to go with cheap small brands...

You also need to open a shell and type mount cf0: or put it in your Startup-Sequence

It says CF0: is already mounted; when I try to go there, it tells me there's no disk present.
