I just received a DENEB card with two USB ports and I will be tryingt to install it in my A3000 desktop this weekend. The instructions are very poor or written for computer hardware gurus, not a rookie like me.
Is there any place where I can find a guide with easier and friendlier step by step installation guide? A video in You Tube would also be awesome. I was told I will need a jumper, but I don't even know, what type, where to buy, and where to use it. I'm doing this as a hobby and I want to learn, but I don't want to fry my beloved Amiga in the process. I forgot to ask: What is a Poseidon USB stack (is it software), where can I find it? Thanks in advance for any help.

All the software that you need is already on the deneb card, you just have to change a jumper on the card and there will popup a new icon on your desctop just open that up and all you need is inside.
Just remember to remove the jumper when you have taken all the files out. (do NOT change the jumpers when the amiga is ON) I have marked this photo so you can see where to put the jumper, the top marking is just to show what you are marking for ![]() ![]() And this is how you place it inside of your amiga

deneb has actually three ports, two internal to connect with a cable extension to a free rear expansion slot. and one external mounted directly on the pcb. you have to be very careful to connect the cables right way around, otherwise you might fry your deneb. also be careful with the external port, while you cant misconnect the cable it is quite fragile, you should place much pressure on it.
you can download current version of poseidon (4.4) right here: http://www.platon42.de/index2.html the instalation is well documented and automated. read the guide. while at it you can download the last firmware for your deneb: http://www.e3b.de/usb/firm/DENEB_V11.lzh check what version you have before the upgrade. what concerns the jumper. i dont know what you mean. jumper is jumper, usually they are found laying around. i can get you more extensive help when im back with my hardware. |

for the external port i recommend a 3,5 inch 4x hub like this:
http://www.amazon.de/Digitus-DA-7013.../dp/B000Y8BDKE its very useful to have usb ports on front and might even shield the card against accidental damage. |

A jumper is a smal plastik squar that have some small metal pices inside.
The jumpers job is to connect two points together, like the points i marked. You have a top row of pins and a bottomrow, you just place the jumper on top of the pins so it connects the top with the bottom. Somthing like this.

The other picture i posted that i marked in the lower corner.
Now compare that old picture to this. ![]() At the point i marked they have placed a jumper on top of those two pins, its not hard, you have two holes and two pins that goes into them you cant do it wrong as long as you place them on the two pints i have marked. |

This is very cool. I have clear now what a jumper is, looks like and what is for? But I can't figure out where to put it yet? Is only one or two?
What do you mean above by jump first and then remove the jumper after installing?

So what he means is that you first turn a function ON, and then turn it OFF by removing the jumper. BTW. I don't think it is a stupid question, there was a time when I was wondering about the same myself.

Well, I really don't have Deneb myself, but I think you will find what you are looking for here: http://www.e3b.de/usb/soft/dnb_manual.pdf

On the second picture of the deneb card you can see that they have placed a jumper on the exact same spot that i marked with a red sqauar so there is where you want to place it. |
