Default Phase 5 G3 Amiga boards

I remember reading that phase 5 were at one time working on G3 Amiga boards

Does anyone know how far they got with these?

Were any prototypes ever made?

Could there be schematics lying around somewhere..

I'm sure there must be prototypes. As late as the August World of Amiga show they had announced a tentative release date of September '99 and the pricing structure (starting from $799) and were advertising heavily in Amiga mags and taking pre-orders.

They wouldnt have done that without having working prototypes I'm sure.

The PPC is into the Amiga Computers since 1997/98 with two different and incompatible OS (PUP & WOS). And very few softwares were released for the PPC...

So why suddenly in 2012 the PPC will be the future ? Or any hope for our favorite computer ??

I'm open to discuss of course, but all seems that the PPC is a dead-end...

I remember those old Phase 5 G3/G4 boards, they would have been really cool if they had ever come to the market. Although today we have that new Ultimate PPC thing, hopefully that will turn out better:

The Ultimate PPC approach is pretty much the most 'reasonable' approach you can do (if there is such a reason).

Anything "fast" from today's POV (>>1 GHz) will get extremely slowed down by the rest of the system (SCSI, I/O, graphics). The minimum a fast CPU requires is fast memory.

Then there's the slow bus, so you better add a current one as well. Alternatively, you add everything required anyway directly to the board, saving you the hassle of dealing with various drivers required: USB, SATA, graphics.

After a while that leaves you with the old system just used for keyboard and power. Worth it?

However, I'd love to see a decent Ultimate PPC board getting released. Maybe it's even affordable.

OTOH I'd really love to see a PCIe card with a Minimig/Natami on it to run on "alternative systems". With chiplevel emulation/simulation the look and feel would be perfect without all the implications of running ancient hardware. (Don't get me wrong, I still love my 3000 for what it is but find it hard to invest hundreds or even thousands of Euros into it.)

What else do you want? x86 or ARM?

ARM would only add to the incompatibility and as for x86, there use AROS or UAE.

@zipper
You could sell it on eBay and make a fortune of it

Im sure its a demand for PPC judging by the prices of CyberstormPPC/BlizzardPPC these days. As a classic advocate myself, its just sad to know nothing is happening with WarpUP.
