I had to remove it this morning because of one claim. I will publish it this week again (slightly changed)

This is all good, thanks for your efforts.
I hope one day, that this will offer open source libs which are faster/better for classic HW users

Other than being a freeware download, does 68K AROS have any advantages to OS3.9?

the first that comes in mind is that is actively developed; the second is that is open source and therefore anybody that can code can contribute to it and improve it....

I personally believe that Aros68k will have lots of great features and enhancements in the future compared to 3.9, but unfortunately, it seems, it will never be as fast as the AmigaOS 3.x line, due to lack of adequate optimisations. And then, we all know how vital is to get the best performance, on a low end microprocessor system such as the Amiga.
Despite the improved code readability and maintenance Aros68k might provide, there is little a bloated C compiler can do better on Amiga, than the old tighly compiled assembler code, or even in the worst case scenario, the specificly designed Amiga 68k C compiler that has real optimisations built-in. But then it is just my opinion... |

It really depends on the will of the AROS devs, if they target 060 they should be able to build faster libs than the old ones which target 020 (at best!).

I do not know what the target of Kickstart Replacement and Aros 68k will be. It will certainly need better hardware than the old 3.1.. Right now it needs 060 to be useful but that will change over the time... |

AROS 68k is compiled (targeted) for the 68000. This is less than optimal for the 68020+. There are a few 68k assembler support functions that are for a specific 68k CPU. AROS 68k should get faster but probably won't ever be as fast as AmigaOS 3.x because it's not as simple and multi-platform.

It cans run under WinUAE to test and to avoid risk in a true machine or UAE harddisk working.
