Default Classic WB Success

Well, after only about a week of Amiga experience, and a LOT of help from you guys, I got Classic WB ADVSP installed on my CF card, and am now using it as an OS. I would like to thank Darrin, especially, for all his help, and Mechy, for his help and selling a GREAT product. I got my RGB to VGA adapter working, and am now using an LCD monitor in NTSC High Res Interlaced, which looks good. I have updated the KS to 3.1, my A2091 from 6.6 to 7.0 roms, and have a couple of the SCSI controller chips from Mechy to upgrade the one in my card on the way. I have really learned a lot from you guys, and I appreciate it so much. I even learned how to use WinUAE, and do everything from there using the CF reader in my Linux PC. I would also like to thank the guys for making Classic WB, it is AWESOME! I have had so much fun doing this, and now, I just have to finish upgrading the controller chip on the A2091, then I want to add a CD-ROM. I have 3 SCSI CD-ROMs laying around, just need to ask questions, read up, and try to figure it out. Thanks again to you all, you'll never know how much I appreciate your help!

Jeff

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot, in case you didn't already know, my machine is an A2000, with a 68030 Accelerator @ 25Mhz with 2mb ram, A2091 SCSI with 2mb ram and 7.0 roms, Supra 2000 with 6 mb ram, 1 mb chip ram, Alfa Data external floppy, internal floppy, Mechy CF card reader used as the HD, with 500 meg system, 500 meg work, and 1gb storage partitions, & a GBS 8200 V4.0 video converter.

Excellent news. Enjoy ClassicWB, it is the only Workbench installation I used across all of my machines (Amigas, Minimig, Chameleon64, FPGA Arcade).

Have you located the WHDload game packs yet and installed them? It is easier to do using UAE to write to your CF Card. If you have issues regarded what ROM images to install, what they should be called and where they need to go then PM me.

i think an earlier post here might answer another question. i'm trying to get an accelerator card for the 2k and am wondering if my gvp 8 mb card will still be useful and if my 2091 will have to be kicked out if the acclerator has scsi on it...

and lordy what id give to get rid of flicker.

You shouldn't have a problem with still using the RAM on the GVP 8 card with the CPU card.

I've used the RAM on my A2091 and an 8MB Zorro RAM card (but not at the same time due to the 8MB Zorro limit) along with my CPU.

If you get a CPU card (and there's a few on eBay at the moment) you should see the Fast RAM broken up into CPU RAM+GVP RAM. The CPU card RAM will be used by the system first and it will use the slower GVP RAM as a last resort.

If your CPU card has SCSI on it then you'll want to kick your A2091 out (unless you want to use the RAM on it). Mine is up on a shelf covered in dust.

Rather than get a flicker fixer, look for a cheap Zorro RTG card (like a Cybervision). Most games don't use interlaced screens, so you can use the RTG card to get a nice big Workbench and screens for web browsers or graphics programs. I have a Cybervision643D in my A2000 and it will give you a very nice looking (and fast) Workbench with ClassicWB.

My 600 can handle the 3.9 classic. However I prefer the 68k version as its smooth as silk.

Does the A600 have a 68000 or 68020? 3.9 needs a 68020+.

Great work! Its good to see a success story, I know how hard it is to set it up first time around... haha! Im still trying to get my ClassicWB onto a 8GB CF card, only troubleshooting part time.. I decided to order a 4GB CF card to avoid the 4GB barrier

im bidding on one of the cards "that has very rare ram sticks" so i have this half brained idea that i could at least use it as is and maybe even try virtual ram with a cf card. ive played with 512, 2gb and 4 gb cards and they work just fine as long as i dont go past the 512 mb partition size. i have yet to be able to use a partition any larger than 512 mb. but again as far as card size it doesnt seem to matter at all.

im using a rear mounted cf card adaptor that fits in an empty card slot and the cf card pokes out the back enough to change it, and then an ide to scsi converter. it seems a lot faster on reading (and booting).

and nothing like keeping an amiga working after all this time. who would have ever thought we would be replacing full height 5 inch 10 meg hard drives that cost 500 bucks with cf card, sd cards, micro sd cards.......
