Default PAL-NTSC Switching

Hello All,
I have a NTSC USA A2000 HD system, and when I use the Sysinfo utility, it confirms that it is indeed fitted with a ECS AGNUS 1MB chip. The question that I have is this:

How come when I start the system and press down on both mouse buttons, in the Boot menu, there is no Display Options, Display Mode/PAL?

I am referring to this link:

http://oldwww.nvg.ntnu.no/amiga/amig...igaFAQ_19.html

How can I switch between PAL and NTSC on this machine?

Thanks!

You need 3.0 and up to be able to choose from early startup, sry.

I have an ECS A2000. It was originally a NTSC model, but it had the Agnus that was capable of both PAL & NTSC modes. If you have the same motherboard revision then there is a jumper that needs a trace cut to switch it from NTSC to PAL and if you fit a switch to the jumper pins then you can use that to toggle between the modes prior to switching it on.

I'll see if I can find the info on it.

Personally, I set mine to PAL and left it that way.

Edit: I found this note on the BBoAH:

Jumpers

These setting come out of the manual for an Amiga 2000 Revision 4.x and is compliant with Rev 6.x Amiga 2000 boards as well.

J102

This jumper if available configures the A2000 for NTSC, or PAL operation. Agnus 8370, 8372A, 8372AB for example, support switching between NTSC and PAL. Rev 6.4 motherboards and possibly later revisions come with an 8375 Agnus by default which does not support switching. It was made in in separate versions for PAL and NTSC

All my miggies have switches on the back (leading to the according jumper) for selecting PAL/NTSC - just toggle & reboot. Yes, this can also be done when powered up, the effect is on reboot only, however.

That's nice to know. I was always worried whether it might do something nasty to the machine.

Ditto on my machines, accept I have mine on front.

I also have a 68030/68000 switch on the front. However watch out not all accelerators allow for toggling when powered up. example: Toggling the Fusion Forty (68040/68000) will damage the accelerator card and the a2000.

where pressing a key (or at least space) on the early startup screen will toggle between pal/ntsc. I can't remember if there was a radio button as well, but someone at commodore obviously thought there was a big problem that someone would have a monitor that didn't support the default region your amiga was set to.

I haven't used 2.04 for ages, so I can't remember if there was a hidden option like that. However there are CLI programs and bootblocks that allow you to switch.
Or you could use screenmode to change it, as long as you have PAL and NTSC monitor drivers installed it should work.

Depends on why you want to switch. Being in a PAL country all mine are set to PAL anyway and I have rarely had a need to switch to NTSC.
