You might like to consider the fact that, in this thread, I've expressed nothing but my dislike of the British Broadcasting Corporation. Notice the word British in that title? The BBC, for many, is a worshipped British institution. In many cases, adulation of the BBC simply boils down to the fact that it's an internationally recognised "British" brand and so some people get a sick jingoistic pride from its existence. They don't seem to consider the fact that the BBC is virtually a private enterprise that makes 100s of milions in pure profit every year, yet still demands people pay them an unjustified government enforced tax. The BBC don't ask for this money in a nice "democratic" way either, there is no public debate as to whether the people want it. No, they do it in a typically socialist/communist gangster-like fashion, full of threats towards supposedly "free" adult individuals.

I'm clearly not a blind patriot (unlike your average American) but I'm also not going to listen to the illinformed _opinion_ of a foreigner who doesn't live in this country and so isn't subject to the BBC's tax. He's not expected to pay the tax - I am. Clear?

And yes, imo, Jack Nicholson is one of the greatest actors to have ever existed. Far better than any of the popular lilly-livered British actors - with their "polite and gentlemanly" characterisations of British people. So bang goes your theory that I'm some kind of bigoted Brit.

Its the new Fox thing - tie two completely opposite things and then apply them to a third unrelated thing. It takes practice to deliver it properly, for example:

Quick couple of points. A lot of our television is free but is full of advertising. The BBC provides advertising free broadcasts.

The also provvide a wealth of extra service and are the reason in the 80s that so mnay schools had a computer education broadcast.

Another point is that the BBC is respected around the world for un-biased, factual news reporting. Have you ever watched Fox news, I couldn't tell the differencce to that and the onion.
