Default A-MAX-II Info

I am attempting to get this program working on my Minimig v 1.1.

I would use Shapeshifter but my Minimig only has 3.5M and a 68000.

Does anyone know how to create a bootable image (HDF or ADF) for A-MAX-II via UAE or evan real Amiga? I'm thinking I'm needing to convert a mac boot disk to ADF format somehow.

I have never used A-MAX and I'm really not finding much info at all. It seems like this A-MAX already includes a 128K ROM.

I have included a screen shot of the A-MAX drive configuration screen.

I have also included a screen shot showing how mad fast(for a 68000) my Minimig runs on the latest core.

Thanks for reading.

Minimig 1.1 = 68030 25MHz.

that's VERY impressive for such a lil' guy!

You probably won't be able to use A-MAX on a Minimig because it doesn't use the standard Amiga disk format. You can't make an ADF of an A-MAX Mac boot disk.

I just did a mod to the mother board to enable faster virtual HD speed. It a little more than doubled.

yes it says 1.0 A3000 speed but it seems MUCH faster because of the improved video speed!

I agree, that would be a real problem. I prepared the last set of docs for the A-Max 4.0 when it went to supporting color Mac screens. Wish I still had that board!

You can find the old docs and support for A-Max here:

I was thinking that maybe I could mske a OS 6.X HDF image with Shapeshifter under UAE and maybe A-Max could boot from that?

A-MAX needs a driver for whatever hard disk controller you want to use with it. It would be possible to write one for the Minimig, but I don't know anyone who has the driver documentation required to do so.

I'm just finding that out now.

I managed to create a Mac 6.0.8 disk image with vMAC for windows. I tried the image with ShapeShifter and it began to boot but complained because of 32Bit addressing, so I figured the image was good.

I assigned the image as my secondary HD in the minimig menus and was trying to configure Amax to use scsi.device not understanding that A-MAX needs custom HD driver.

Well shoot. The Minimig's IDE is supposed to be compatible with A600 Gayle. Is there a driver for that?

Thanks for the info.

Maybe I'll look and see if fusion supports my crazy fast 50mhz 68000

Some guys on EAB created extended ADF of boot disk that works under WinUae.

Hey Bob,

I saw your A-Max page and it is quite nice. I wondered if Simon Douglas ever contacted you?

I met Simon Douglas at one Amiga show. We talked for quite a long time and he was facinating to listen too. He told me that when MagicSac said that a Macintosh emulator for the Amiga was impossible (they were working on it after the success for the ST one) he thought they were idiots.

Simon said he was able to get the core emulation up in a weekend (where it was asking for a disk). The hardest part was getting the whole disk drive thing worked out since Apple 400/800k drives are goofy.

I was just a kid back then but I would love to talk with him now.

Did you ever hear from him or know where he went?

Cheers!
-P

Another option on the Minimig is to try this MacPlus Core http://www.minimig.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=411 but from whaT I understand it only currently supports 4MB Minimig's using the original PIC chip rather than the ARM addon board, so I have not been able to test it.

If ARM support or running on 2MB versions of the Minimig is supported I will have to give it a go myself.

I did see that. I have a 4MB minimig with ARM, I don't even remember what I did with my PIC.

Anyway,

It looks from reading this thread on A-Max disks on EAB that they have gotten A-Max to work on UAE with some ADF disks they have in "The Zone". I just got access to "The Zone" but further reading indicates the ADFs contain a virus. FUN FUN FUN

Think I'll go watch TV. For now...

Wish I could claim the A-Max site as mine, it's not. I found it one day via Google! I've written the site owner and congratulated him on the fine job! I moved to real Macs shortly after doing my work on the A-Max IV docs.

I would have liked to meet Simon. I guess he didn't do West Coast/California Amiga shows. We talked a bunch via phone while I was working on the documentation. Your version jives with my recollection of Simon's explanation of how he got in the emulator business. Haven't heard from him since. Hope he is well.
