Because MorphOS 3.0 is near, some of you might already be looking to get a PowerBook.

Is the new version going to support the mobile GeForce chipsets? If not, be aware that some Powerbook models sport this while others have Radeon chipsets; all the 12" aluminum models have GeForce chipsets in them.

It says in the guide that only 15" & 17" 1.67Ghz models are supported for now. They all have ATI in them.

GeForce is not supported. The instructions specifically point to the 1.67GHz models (and the very last 1.5GHz model, but that's not recommended since it's hard to identify the supported rev-d). These all have ATI Radeon graphics card.

I was given a powerbook5,8 a while back. Pretty nice specs. 2GB ram, 1.67ghz, 128mb VRAM.

Can't complain! I only needed to buy a power supply, battery and DVD drive. That was like $150 and the machine was easy to disassemble.

I'm going to laugh when it spanks the x1000 performance wise.

Nice gift! Probably saved you over $200, as most of those models of PowerBooks are selling around $350 to $450 on eBay lately. I agree that they are easy to disassemble, but it is time consuming and care must be taken with all those tiny and delicate parts. I just replaced the heatsink & fan assembly on my 17" 1.67GHz G4 PowerBook and replaced the hard drive with a WD320gb drive. To get the heatsink & fan assembly out you have to practically remove every other part from the PowerBook and are left with just the shell.

The guide by Jacek is really good and should prevent most of the confusion of anyone interested in getting a G4 PowerBook to run MorphOS3.0 on when it is finally released.
