If you try to do this as cheaply as possible, you will deserve the picture quality you end up with. Your real choices are a 1084 monitor or an A2000 FF/SD with a VGA/SVGA monitor.

If you want the quality, consider buying a scan doubler, which allows using Amiga with any CRT or LCD VGA monitor (and will prevent eyes damage due to flicker and blur).
I'm very happy with the Indivision ECS. The display is sharp, colors are vivid, quality is just brilliant. |

Just remember that the RCA Video out (yellow port on the back) is monochrome only.

If you can find a cheap Y/C genlock and are able to solder a cable you could use the 1702's S-video input for ~90% sharpness of the full quality RGB video.
Stay clear of composite - even if you do get color (A520) the blur is just about bearable for games. |

Depends what you are using your A2000 for. If it's mainly for games there is a good S-Video adaptor available which will give you a good picture on a good TV.
http://www.amigamaniac.com/RGB_to_PAL_NTSC_adapter.html I have a V1 and V2. Otherwise there are lots of video/RTG cards out there for the A2000. A2320 - CBM Display Card that fits in the video slot to the right of the Pwr supply. Works well on old CRT Monitors. Picasso II, III, IV + others. These cards can go for $100s on ebay. Then there is the Indvision ECS.... Have a look here for the different types sometimes available: http://amiga.resource.cx/exp/gfx

The colors are just not as vibrant. and its the same with LCD or CRT VGA monitors. (haven't tried that Indivision, but doubt its much different)

I have to admit the old CBM Monitor at 15k had a different "depth" to the colour that does seem more "washed out" on RTGs etc. (Apologies I called it an A2340 in my original post. Edited now.)

Color perception on a 'glare' monitor like the 1084 tends to be crisper, more vibrant. More modern CRTs usually have (or should have) an anti-reflectant surface which does damage the colors a bit. But I wouldn't call the 1084 a 'quality' monitor or 'the best' for that... An LCD otoh is something completely different. CCFL lighting is fair at best. For a decent colorspace LED backlight is a must - and even then it's somewhat different. |
