@ Karlos

I'll need to dig around in me collection and find it (pretty sure it's there) just never liked Doom on any platform so never got round to trying it on the miggie... expect a video soon...

I enjoyed Doom, but I preferred the atmosphere in AB3D. Despite the 2x2 chunky copperscreen graphics, it just had a certain je ne sais quoi to it.

I used to play DoomAttack a lot on my Amiga1200 with Viper 68030. It is the fastest port and it was playable, when I tune down the screen 2 times to smaller size on AGA, no problem. Back in 2002 I found lots of Doom websites with patched, custom WADs and new levels to explore and play. I had Batman Doom, Star Trek Doom and hundreds of other wads. You can play Doom on Amiga for hours if you into that type of games.

Nah... no chance of that...

To me these Doom style games are the worst thing ever invented as far as gameplay & Gfx goes, I'm just interested in seeing how well it runs compared to the others of that ilk on the Amiga...

Hey doc,
Any chance you, Hotrod, or someone else could try the version Karlos used (DoomAttack the 040 optimised version) on a faster OS4.1 platform like a SAM or a Pegasos?
I'm curious to see how well this would scale on faster processors.

And, now, a Powerbook G4 15" 1.67 Ghz notebook with MorphOS 3.1 (still under construction).

I could probably try it on my A1, which being an 800MHz G4 is substantially faster than my 603e. Wouldn't be surprised if it bangs some native metal somewhere though.

That could prove interesting.
You think it might be using direct access even under OS4? That would be cheating, but it would be somewhat revealing about OS4 on classic hardware.
Heck, it might even be a selling point.

Wait, are you asking if hardware banging-apps run on OS4 on classics? The answer has always been yes, at least for those that don't require cycle exact behaviour or make assumptions about the OS (so there are some limits since hardware poking apps often poke OS structures directly too). The native hardware is, after all, ultimately just a set of registers as far as the processor is concerned.

That makes sense. So classic Amiga hardware running OS4 may be more compatible with OS3.x apps then other hardware.

The CSPPC could be even better, but only at comparable speed bumps.
Member Delshay here claims that he can push the CSPPC to 500MHz and the BlizzardPPC to 550MHz, but I have not heard of anyone confirming his claims yet, or perhaps these are numbers that he thinks are possible and has just not completed his work to prove them. He did clarify those statements with the addition of the CPU not being a 603, or 604, but I don't know what CPU he is planning on using.

Interesting. I only spent a little time looking, but I couldn't find to many processors that were compatible with the 603e or 604e (that were still available).
Freescale's 5200B has an e300 core that is 603e software compatible, but I doubt the hardware is close enough for something like this.
I wonder what he was thinking of using?

Hi,

@Karlos,

Ever tried to play Doom or AB3D on the Cloanto Amiga Forever (WinUAE), they fly, doom takes only about a second to load, AB3D takes a while, you have to play with the DF0 drive.

I have reached frame rates of 55 fps in doom at 1024 X 768, 40 fps at 1200 X 1024.

Just love it.

Hey have you heard Far Cry 3 is coming out. Can't wait for that one.

Sorry Franko, you can't play, you don't have the right equipment. You need a wee little PC.

Well, I did not ran it on SAM or Pegasos, because I don't have such machine, but here it is running on microAmigaOne.

For comparison, I also ran ADoom (Another Doom port for Amiga - the 68K version) and then PrBoom. PrBoom is old compile with the static SDL that takes all the resources (the early one), so, as seen on the video, the 68K ports perform better than the crappy SDL port.
ADoomWOS is also in the drawer, but I didn't run it. It works with the GuruMeditation's WOS Emulator after ignoring a Grim Reaper warning.
Any comments or other requests are welcome.
