Hi,
I am looking for a HD replacement for our A2000 with Blizzard 2060. The main reason for me is noise, the A2000 is very noisy... Is it worth the money? What would you recommend? What sizes are available? regards selco |

Or else go for a CF flash card and CF to IDE adapter .. I think up to 32GB CF cards exist .

SCSI to IDE adapter and then CF-card adaper or 3.5" to 2.5" IDE HD adapter.

Most of the noise from your computer, sadly, is the power supply fan :-(

Actually, old SCSI hard drives create far more noise than power supply fans, as measured in decibels, and they only get louder as they get older.

Thanks for all the replies. Actually at least half of the noise comes from the HD and it would be nice to get rid of these 50%. The fan from the PSU would be another challenge.
The solution with a CF cards seems to be nice. Are they really fast enough? Ok, the old HD is slow too, and the SCSI-controller of the Blizzard 2060 is not to fast either... I would like a sultion with a slot bracket so that the CF could be removed/exchanged easily without opening the A2000. That would allow to use/install/backup the CF from WinUAE very comfortable. Are the differences between the different IDE <-> CF converters? Speed? Or are all equally suited for our Amigas? regards selco, http://selco.da.ru |

Buy a Noisekiller for the fan (tempcontrolled) and install it in the psu.
Works great on my 2 x A2000. http://www.noisekiller.nl/ Good luck

The noisekiller looks pretty cool.
I installed a quiet 80mm fan (rubber mounted) in the PSU of my A2000, and also a Nexus WaveAir in the slot between the CPU card and the first Zorro slot. (The only thing left is to install some filter material in the bottom vents in the front.) The CF card will likely be much faster than your current SCSI drive. I'm getting just under 10 MB/s (raw) on the TekMagic SCSI with an 8GB Ultra II Sandisk card. |

The only SCSI->IDE adapters I found are from Acard and cost around 90 Euro. I was a bit surprized about this high price.

But if you get the Acard you get the benefit of SCSI with the benefit of CF-card in the same package, a bit expensive yes
![]() Also, loud fans in A2000, A3000 and A4000 are easely solved with modern fans, dont go for a slow speed 500 rpm fan but a standard "quiet" fan. My A3000 is so quiet I can barely hear it ![]() A 2.5" IDE hard drive is actually not a bad idea either, they are typically silent. If they make noice you can always put them in an empty 5.25 CD-rom shell packed with noice insulating mat, 2.5" drives are so cool runing you wont need to bother with ventilation around them.

On unexpanded Amigas with IDE/ATA interfaces, you'll need to use a CompactFlash card that supports PIO mode. Most do, but some newer (and less expensive) cards only support DMA modes. When in doubt, check the card's datasheet.
