It runs reasonably well on 68k, definitely better than I would have expected!

It works here with MiamiDx.

Let me know when it's better than the last release of iBrowse running on an 030 and I'll switch over

Nope. Worked for me with Miami on OS 3.5bb2 (A4000T). It took up all my available ram (64MB) though, after loading a page or two. While the port is obviously very accomplished, there is not much in the way of Amiga-comformity. i.e. no public screen support, no mapping of colormaps on 256-color screens, no window-resizing, etc. Hopefully this is a direction in which the browser will be taken. Great starting point.

its no question if better or not, its a question if the pages you use are show correct.

when you surf only amiga pages that are build to not use CSS, then all is ok, but when you want show pages that are not show in ibrowse correct, or are unusable, then ibrowse does not help.

i get report that some pages are show faster with netsurf than with ibrowse, but i thinbk because processing CSS cost speed, and ibrowse or aweb ignore it, then pages are faster show in general because the pages look complete diffrent without CSS able browser.

that 64 megabyte are not enough is maybe because of cacheing.unix have no commands to check for availible mem.

i ask in netsurf ML how low mem handler work on netsurf.
normaly when netsurf run out of mem it can clear the content of previous pages.

what pages you are load ?

I play a little with big pages and click many links, and i notice it uses around 32 megabytes.I use a netsurf window size of 1000*900 and 32 bit.with 16 bit memory usage should be lower.

so a 64 megabyte system seem have enough mem for netsurf.

Dear Amiga people,

I am trying to install the NetSurf browser (v 2.7) on an emulated version of Worbench 3.1 (latest version of WinUAE), and I am running into problems.

First and foremost, when trying to access any website, I get a “Could not resolve host” error message at the bottom of the browser. Please see screenshot here.

I have ticked the bdsocket.library option. In fact other browsers (iBrowse, aWeb) can access the web fine.

I note your comment regarding AmiTCP, and the fact that I need to copy the usergroup.library file to AmiTCP:lib. I believe I have done this correctly, since the “Please insert volume AmiTCP in any drive” message goes away. Also when I type the command “dir AmiTCP:lib” it lists the usergroup.library file, as expected (again see same screenshot above)

So where am I going wrong?

Also I have another problem: in the browser window itself, when clicking on most of the controls at the top (address bar, etc.) I get an “Abort trap – Netsurf” error Window. The window is entitled “ixemul.library”. Again I believe I have installed the correct version in the right place.

I would appreciate any help or comments. Let me know if you need any more information from me (versions, screenshots etc,)

Thanks a lot!

Thanks for this. It did indicate that the usergroup.library still failed to load.

And I have now worked out why. It should be in a "libs" folder, with an "s"... not "lib" as specified in an earlier message! I can't believe I have spent hours on this

Anyway, thanks!
